How much are you looking to spend? If it were me, I think the Highway 1 series is the best bang for the buck, yes it's more expensive than the Standard (MIM) but it comes with the BadAss II bridge, '70s logo, nitro c finish, and a big plus, it's an MIA. That's me tho.

A big +1.

I have a Highway one P-bass. I love that bass, it will always be in my collection. I am one of the few that likes the "GreaseBucket" tone circuit, which rolls of the highs without adding bass.

With that said, you really need to go down to your local Guitar Center or music store and get your hands on as many Jazz basses as you can. Play and touch and feel each one. Spend time with each one. Ask for a strap to use or bring your own and fool around with the bass in your normal playing position. Find the bass that you feel is good for you.

Another one to consider, the Aerodyne Series, very nice bass, you get both p/j set up on it. Same price right now compared to the HWY1. The downside - if you can even say it's a downside - it's a CIJ. Very light weight, only comes in black here in the US, and no pickguard, which I like.

Oh yeah, Zod is correct about the greasebucket circuit, I like it, taking off highs w/o adding bass. I know some guys don't like it, I kinda do.

Actually the all black Aerodyne Jazz version is $650, and the Hwy One's got bumped to $850. That's a cool bass. If I had a bigger bank account, that would be in my collection. I actually fooled around with these this past friday night at my local GC. I want, I want, I want.

That's cool that the price went down. I forgot about the Flat Black. I wanted to get the 5 string version. I think these are CIK's too. I've read a review on them, it's pretty good. Bass Player magazine IIRC.

I just picked up the Highway 1 Jazz on the 12th of Sept and I have to say that overall, it's probably one of the best looking and best sounding basses out there. For the $850, it's more than worth it.

IMO yes, but that doesn't mean that you can't find quality MIM's.
