What kind of wrench do I use to adjust a MIM Standard Jazz bass? I just put some flatwound strings on my new bass and even though I used the exact same gauge strings, the neck needs a minor tweak. I've done this kind of adjustment many times before on other basses but none of my allen (hex) wrenches seem to fit. The opening is very small and the head of the truss rod is hard to see. Have they changed to something other than the normal hex head? Thanks.

To be honest, i've yet to find any truss rod that has an opening that fits snuggley to the tool recommended for it.
I have an assortment of SAE (inch) and metric (mm) Allen/Hex keys for this. I've also modified a few short ends of the keys for tight spaces.
If you can find them i'd recommend getting a set each of "ball end" type of allen wrenches.
Such as this.

My MIA standard jazz bass uses a 3/16" allen wrench. The MIM's might use metric. Do lke the previous post and get both SAE and metric allen sets. The kind that have the ball on the end are the best.

Thanks for the replies. Upon closer inspection, it appears that my new bass has a rounded-out truss rod. I know that I didn't do it because I never got a wrench to fit it. I doubt that it left the factory like that (but you never know) so I'll be taking it back to Guitar Center and hope they do the right thing.

:( :x
