Hi. I've always wanted to learn to play the bass, and was always on my to-do list, but one of those things that life got in the way of. Now I have no excuse! I received a Fender Squier bass guitar and a Fender Rumble 25 from my kids for Christmas. Time to start learning!

Trying to identify the guitar, and the year it was made. Based on the serial number (IC080542985), I think it was made in 2008? It says crafted in Indonesia on it. Can I determine the model from the serial number or not? If not, how do I know what model it is?

Thanks for any help anyone can give, and happy to be here!

Well, after a little more investigation, it looks like it's a 70's precision bass, but with chrome volume and tone knobs and different pickups than they currently use.

Hi, welcome to the BASS! You may get more information about your bass at SQUIER BASS GUITARS, scrolled down a further for that. PaulLF is a bass member here on the site, that's up pretty well on Squier basses too.

Oh geez...

Sorry, I mis-read the forum listings when I logged on. Thank you for the info.

Moderators - can you move this to the Squier section please? Or I can just report it there.

It's ok pretty much here as there, but you may get a better view of the posting there on your Squier bass. Repost it there would maybe be quicker. You made out like a bandit with your new gear! Image

No, actually it's this one - https://shop.fender.com/en-US/squier-electric-basses/jazz-bass/classic-vibe-70s-jazz-bass/0374540506.html

Or maybe this - http://www.squierwiki.com/CV-'70s-Jazz-Bass

Natural finish, except it has chrome knobs and the pickups have DUNCAN DESIGNED on them. I did determine by the serial number that it was made in 2008. My daughter bought it from one of the doctors she works with for $100, so I gotta say she got a steal! It was played a couple of times and put away. I think for me, just starting out, this combo will work out great.

Thanks for all the replies!

Oh, I think I know what model you are talking about. It's one of these? https://reverb.com/item/30786469-2008-f ... rd-natural Those were about the first models when they started doing the Vintage Modified Series, which now it's just Classic Vibe, I think. I have a Vintage Modified Jazz Bass that's a sunburst model, which is a little different. It's a nice player. $100 is a good deal on that bass. 8)
