Greeting folks

I play a USA Fender Jazz bass, in vintage white (i think!) with a rosewood fretboard which I bought new in about 1989 (about £400 ish). I was about 19 when I bought it, loved the look, feel, sound and playability (it replaced a Japanese Squier Jazz which became my trusty back up) but never really took much notice of what series, range it belonged to. Having got back into playing recently, and being a little more interested in the history etc I recently checked out the official fender serial numbers and realised that my bass has an unusual number. According to the list mine should be E9 + 5 digits however it actually is E93584 (i.e E9 + 4 digits) and I can't find any mention of that type of serial number in the listings.

Can any of you Jazz 'masters' shed any light on this for me?

Thanks Lou
