Well, the only clocks I have to mess with are the ones on the microwave and the stove in the kitchen, and those are digital. It's not like the old days where you had to rewind a bunch of them, or watches. Although, they still have those, I suppose.

I have clocked all over the house, plus timers.

Timers for security lights? Wouldn't M18 Claymores be more effective, as long as you face them the right way? :P

My timers are somewhat the lamp timers for the lamps inside the house. The out side stuff is pretty much ok since they run along with the sun cycles.

We have motion detector lights for the outside, besides the normal ones that are there, all with LED bulbs. I rather use LED bulbs because of their efficiency. They use little energy, yet they last a very long time.

I almost can't keep track of the bulbs anymore.

Just like this title now. Epiphone Viola Where the hell did that come from?

Along story shortened. For some time I had it in the back of my head that my friend was somehow not right about the neck setting on my former Epi Viola. A guy I know is one of the top luthiers anywhere, was going to be in the area. I gave him a ring, and asked him to come along to check out the Viola that was still at GC. Explained the issue to him, and he laughed is asz off. He came over, and we went up to GC. On the way there he said it sounded to him like it needed an over setting on the adjustment rod, then back it off to the right spot. We get there, I locate the Viola, he looks at it, and says to me, buy it and I'll reset it to where it should be. I did just that. While I'm paying for it, he pulls out some pocket tools he carries around with him, and does the neck adjustment. It took him all of about two minutes. He was done before I finished paying for the Viola. He was right! The damn neck is perfect.

Wow, I wasn't expected that one! That's interesting, especially the fact that bass was still around after all of that time since you had had it. The one thing you definitely don't have to worry about with those basses is the weight. They're pretty much featherweight, I think. At least my copy of one is. I just wish that I could have it set up with the neck like I do with the Ibanez. I have to have the neck tweaked to some degree to keep the first fret from buzzing, so it makes the action higher than it is on the Ibanez. The neck is small enough to where that's not much of a big deal to where it impedes my playing, but I do notice it. I wish I knew someone like you do so I'm sure they could set it up properly, since I really don't know crap about that. I just kind of wing it and hope for the best.

I don't do that well with neck adjustments myself. I got lucky with this one. As silly as it may sound, the Epi Viola Humbuckings sound the same as the ones on the Epi EB-3. I didn't need to do any resets on the HD75 between the two Epi's.

I imagine they have the same pickups with both models, don't they?

The lead humbuckings, (the bridge pups), are NYT Bass mini humbuckings, on both basses. The EB-3's rhythm Humbucking, (the neck pup) is a Sidewinder humbucking, and the Viola's neck pup is a NYT Bass mini humbucking as well. To me though, I'm not hearing any difference in sound through the same amp, with the settings set the same, between the two sets of Humbuckings. Good tones, and loud.

The only thing I needed to do with the Viola, was tighten up the jack. It was a bit loose. All it took was to unscrew the two screws holding the jack plate on the side of the body, and hold the inner nut in place as I tightened the outer nut. Set the jack assembly back into place, and tightened the jack plate screws. There is a very solid, good jack area too unscrew, and screw in. I am very impressed, I thought it was going to be a bit cheap, but not so at all.

I'm now believing the neck issue I first encountered with this Viola, wasn't the manufacture at the China facility, but the setup at the U.S. facility. Go

They do seem to have their $@!& together from what I've witnessed over the years. I've never really heard a lot of complaints with most of their gear, so I guess that's pretty good quality control. Usually if you hear anything negative, that's against Gibson, but maybe with the new blood in there, that will change, as well.

Those pickups really seem to be good stuff, as well. I wish I had those in my violin bass, or better yet, had one of those Viola basses, so I can utilize it more that I can with the bass I currently have. I can't knock it for $100, though, since it has served me in some ways. It just has certain limitations that I know the Viola doesn't, especially with those pickups. I haven't been able to successfully record with the violin bass, because of the pickups, which is a bummer, because I'd love to have that hollow body sound on some stuff. I don't know, maybe I can tweak it better using the MXR preamp, but it was just easier to plug in the Ibanez instead of trying to hassle with that, which is what we did.

That's a bummer about your Douglas pups not performing as you need them too. I would think the Humbuckings from the Epi would work on the Douglas. I have no idea what they would cost though.
Other than the neck issue, I do like the feel of the Epi, even over say the 500/1 Hofner. And I'd have to admit, the Epi sounds as well as the Hofner. $400. bucks is easier to acquire than close to $3,900. for a 500/1. I like the simplicity of the controls on the Epi style over the Hofner, with that selector switch Hofners use. I can also use regular type of strings on the Epi, unlike the Hofner that has the guitar size tuning pegs.
True, the body of a Hofner is smaller, and lighter, being a Violin size, and weight. Where as the Epi is slightly bigger, and heavier as a Viola. My Epi weighs in at 7.6 pounds, and if I recall, the Hofner was like 4.3 pounds.
But for whatever reason, the Epi just feels better when I play it, as compared to when I did have the Hofner. Crazy right? Oh well.

I'm sure with the cost of the pickups (I'm sure they'll even be more than I paid for the bass, itself,) and having them installed, I'd be better off with just the Epiphone. Less of a hassle, too. But that's something that probably wouldn't happen for a long time, if it all, unfortunately. You never know what the future brings, though.

I think the reason you like the Epiphone better is because it's slightly bigger, yet you still have the same type of bass. You're more or less used to Jazz Basses, which are almost night in day in comparison to a Hofner, with the size and weight, so that's kind of like a middle ground there, perhaps.
