One local lead player I was in a band with him for a short time in high school, played a Ric. His name was Paul, and my God, he played so amazing for only like 17 years old. When he played Clapton, he never missed a lick. That was right about the time more of the local players were starting to go to LP's. But, there were still enough SG players around to keep the SG as the top 6 stringer.

I'd say it still is, for the most part. They still make them with several models, at least, and I've seen a couple of other companies copy the body style a bit. I suppose Les Pauls and Strats are more prolific, though.

Right you are about Les Pauls, and Strats. I never looked on Fender to see how many useless Strat models are made, but Gibson has way too many damn useless Les Pauls made. If you want to get a part from the Gibson section of their parts on the site, it better be for a Les Paul, or you won't find the part.
There are some nice SG 6 stringer model variations, but not like the Les Paul. I also don't know how Telecaster models fair up to the Stratocaster models either. Gibson doesn't even come close to concealing how biased they are to the higher end Les Pauls also.

I think its pretty piss poor that Gibson doesn't turn out the SG Spl. basses, that were MIA, a faded finish, and at a more affordable price. I do love my Ebony Epi EB-3, long scale, decent Rosewood board, with the Pearloid Blocks. It just irks me sometimes that its Indonesian, and not an American. It would be more work for American workers. But then again, maybe it's better that it is Indonesian made. Its a beautiful, well made, tight fitting Ebony Epiphone EB-3. Image

Yeah, I know what you mean with the Les Paul models. There's like a ridiculous amount of them, but I guess that's what sells for them.

Gibson does make a Les Paul Junior DC bass that's around $999 new. Not exactly cheap, but not really expensive, either. AMS sells them: https://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i ... JDT00-LIST

Yes they do. It's basically an EB-0. Talk about cheap azz gig bags, Gibson gig bags are terrible.

Yeah, you'd think at least some sort of case. I remember seeing the original EB-0 basses were that shape, instead of the SG variety.

The real Gibson original EB-0 case was the SG style guitar shape case. Some players maybe using rectangular cases, but the factory case was the same as the current issue guitar shape case. The 2015 SG Std. factory case was the gold color rectangular shaped case. I thought the 2015 SG Std. case would be a good one, until I received mine.

I was meaning the original EB-0 bass had the same shape as the new Les Paul Junior bass, until they switched it to the SG shape. I found this site with this page about it: http://www.mygibsonbass.com/id2.html I guess this new Les Paul Junior bass is technically a '59 or '60 EB-0 bass reissue, more or less, but they don't call it that. Then again, they don't use the EB-0 name for their SG bass, either.

The 1967 was the same as my 1969 EB-0. I didn't remember the split head 1970, but that's when I was doing more playing, and less time in the music shops.

I know what you mean. I haven't been in a music store in ages. Unfortunately, there are no longer any around here. There used to be at least 5 when I first came here.

I stay out of trouble, by not going in music stores. I was in SA recently to order the Epi EB-3, and picked up the Hartke HD75 they had in stock. I really got lucky with both, but especially the EB-3 being a drop ship from the Tampa location.

That worked out really well, then. You were able to get what you wanted all in one shot. Are there any "Mom and Pop" stores still around that you ever go into?

There maybe a couple that I'm not aware of, but MAE in Fort Lauderdale is a big M&P store. A few years since I've been down there.

Do they have a online store and carry Fender? I think I might know of this place.

That does sound like MAE, in Fort Lauderdale, on Davie Blvd. (Music Arts Enterprise) The old store was so cool. A small place packed with all kinds of gear. I bought a drum set there, then I took drum lessons there too. That was before I acquired the SG Jr. 6 stringer there also. Then came the Gibson EB-0 that changed my music playing from then on.
