Oh, OK. Those are the two main ones, aren't they? At least that's the ones I've ever heard about. A lot of history there. I suppose you weren't afraid of heights, especially jumping out of a perfectly good aircraft. What's that like to even do that? I imagine it must be like a combination of serenity and pure terror, because you're flying, yet you're seriously FUBARed if your chutes don't open.

The 82nd, and the 101st are the big Airborne dogs. The 101st was the prime group at one of the most critical battles toward the end of the European Theatre, in WWII. The Battle of the Bulge at Bastogne. The 101st was cut off by a massive German offensive of 250,000 troops involved in the offensive. The casualty numbers were staggering.

I'm not too crazy about heights, but it was different for some reason in a plane. I can't explain it, it was just different. It was more quiet as the plane flew away. The chute kept us from free falling.

You were mainly in helicopters though, weren't you? I imagine that was totally different thing there, since those were flying lower to the ground, and you were more likely to get shot at. I imagine those must have been a rougher ride, because of all of that, too.

I hated the Hueys. When they took a serious hit, when went down like rocks. They had to fly just above the trees to be safe from ground fire.

Yeah, I imagine the only thing you had going for them was the speed, and whatever the doorgunner could do. I suspect you didn't have much armor for them, because of the weight, either, was there?

No, the floorboards on those were about as thin as the rest of them were. The pilot, and co-pilot had virtually nothing to protect them either. Some of the gunships with the side rocket packs were damn nasty as hell. They should have pounded that damn place to pumice. All Day And All Of The Night, 24-7 nonstop. I wouldn't have had a problem with it. Not at all.

Would you have traded places with a door gunner, or what you did was safer, if you would call it that?

It would've been a toss up I guess. I had what I was. And at least I had both of my boots on the ground, the majority of the time. The door gunner probably felt better where he was, with his M-60, moving around. All I'm sure of, I surely wouldn't have wanted to have been shot down in one of those damn Hueys, that's for sure. Drop me off at the LZ, and pick me up at the LZ. Public transportation. HA HA!

I suppose there wasn't much call for you to do any parachute jumps, was there, like they did in WW2? Different terrain and environment than Europe, that's why they had to use mainly helicopters. I imagine being in a tank must have been really rough there, when ever they used them. I'll bet they weren't air conditioned. Talk about getting roasted in the heat.

The terrain does dictate what, and how things are carried out. At times as well, hellos can only get troops in so far. The rest the troops hoof it in, and out. Kinda' simple somewhat at times anyway. Air drops weren't safe or practical there. Like you said yourself, tanks were there where the terrain allowed.

I imagine that terrain must have been really tough, with the humidity, and when it rained.

Almost close to when I was working with DOT here in south Florida. Hot, humid, and just those annoying 7.62X39 insects whizzing by, that Florida didn't have. There was rain, but I wasn't in for the Monsoon season.

I'm pleasantly, and completely at ease how the Epi EB-0 sounds through the Rumble 100. I'm serious when I say, I don't know that a Gibson EB-0 (SG) would sound as well as the Epi version. (Even if Gibson did get their head out of the sand, and remake the bass that was so very popular, EB-0!) Of course if it was a true Gibson EB-0, it would in all likely hood be $1,000., like the Les Paul Junior Tribute DC Bass. I know it's basically the same Humbucking on it, and the rest of the specs, but it doesn't have that damn knockout SG body style the EB-0 has. I love that SG body over any other, including the Rickenbacker 4003. An SG, is an SG.

Well, I know a few places in Florida that you'd might have some of those insects flying at you, not necessarily 7.62x39, though, or full auto. :P

I do wish the better combos were around when I had the EB-0 in 1970. But I have one now with this EB-0.
