Hey, we all got to start from somewhere, especially with the gear. I didn't really have a decent amp until I got that Peavey Databass combo, and even that's main thing was it actually had the power to keep up with stuff. It wasn't bad, but not exactly the ultimate tone machine. Of course, that's subject to one's personal tastes.

Tonally speaking, I've always liked Fender, Ampeg, and Gallien Krueger for the top, not to say others aren't any good at all. It's just the ones that I've played and gigged with that I've liked the sound of the most. I loved the Trace Elliot amps, but I never gigged or rehearsed with them, just tried them out in a music store. Technically, I never owned a Gallien Krueger, but I have borrowed them for rehearsing, and a gig.

I used to have a box of cassette tapes from various band rehearsals, and even a house party I played at from when I was only playing around 2 years and later. I could only imagine listening to them now. :P Man, that seems like some other lifetime ago, now.

I thought about your saying what you liked in the gear, and the one amp line that has been a real sleeping giant, and I had one in the days of my youth. TRAYNOR! The Traynor tube heads kicked the crap out of the Fender Bassman heads. My Traynor head wasn't the problem with the sound I had in 1969-1970. It was the poorly designed 2X12 cab I made. Live, and learn.

My Gibson EB-0 played through the Traynor. The EB-0, and the Traynor were fine.

Traynor amps are still around, although they don't seem to get the attention like Ampeg and Fender do. I remember when they were going under the Yorkville name, as well. I remember there was a shop in St. Pete that carried them, where I bought a Laney bass head. I almost forgot about that, since that was when I first started playing.

My friend who bought my Traynor head, loved how it brought out the sounds of his keyboards. Like I said about my cab, it was lousy. The Traynor was great.

That was the cab you built yourself, wasn't it?

What was wrong with it, the way you designed it?

Exactly! The interior bracing was,........ ok. But the overall size of the cab was way to large. What the hell was I thinking when I came up with the dimensions of that behemoth. Too hard to move around, and the air dynamics were too large to move the air out of it. Now that I think about it, the cab would have been a really good 2X15 cab. The plywood I used was way to thick as well. At least I can say the Jensen Concert Vibranto 12's were some darn good non JBL, or Altec Lansings. I can claim, I did at one time in my life to have made my own bass cab. It was an attempt. The Sunn brothers had no competition from me. Image

Well, you probably could have made another one, learning from what you did with the first one.

Image I really don't know, that's a good question. I maybe would have liked too. But it was right before that I moved out of my parents house a few months before graduating from high school. The timing wasn't that great at that time, and I guess I just forgot about making another cab. I was busy getting into staying alive on my own.

Yeah, I suppose life can get in the way like that. Of course, Uncle Sam had other plans for you, as well. Speaking of that, you see what happened in Iraq with the US embassy? I guess we're going into part 2 with that mess, who knows?

No,........ I haven't seen the news in the last few days. But if it's about the dumbest damn thing a country, or group of people can do, The Fusken Iranians will do it. The SSBN 731 Alabama, could fix them up just right. One of these days by God.

I'm just surprised they didn't light them up when they crashed through the front gate. They were using tear gas and things like that, I guess because it was protesters, and not armed militia, from what I've read. I haven't read the news yet, today, so I don't know what else is going on with that. I did read that they are sending in some reinforcements in there, including some troops from the 82nd Airborne in there. Some sort of rapid response unit of some type, I think. You were in the 82nd, weren't you?

Oh, OK. Those are the two main ones, aren't they? At least that's the ones I've ever heard about. A lot of history there. I suppose you weren't afraid of heights, especially jumping out of a perfectly good aircraft. What's that like to even do that? I imagine it must be like a combination of serenity and pure terror, because you're flying, yet you're seriously FUBARed if your chutes don't open.
