I think my favorite album from them is "Live At Leeds." I've noticed when I've recentl usually listened to them it's been the earlier stuff, like "My Generation," and "The Who Sell Out," but I'm usually on some sort of tangent when I'm listening to bands from around that time frame, circa 1965, or whatever. The whole "British Invasion" thing.

It's about time. 8) You know those Dunlop flats that I have on my Ibanez that I put on last year? They've really jacked the price of those now. They're like $45 or $50 now, and even more expensive that the La Bella flats, which are usually around $38 or $39, with these all at AMS. I thought that was really surprising, since they weren't that expensive when I got them. I wonder what's the deal with that?

I know what you mean about the British Invasion music. I can tell you, you would've totally loved it! I sure as hell did. Life in general for me started to be Electric, as we said back then. Life's pace started to speed up. More power, and got LOUDER, that's for sure.

The ETB92S Nylon strings cost about $39. at GC.com. My shipping was free, but I did have the FL sales tax. But now at least I have a new set on the EB-0, and a sealed set backing those up. Those two sets should be all I require for it. The EB-0, with that big Humbucking right up to the neck sounds so great. Just for me anyway. The Rumble 100 is like it was designed for the EB-0 style bass. Image

I really have over the years, had Gibson SG Std.'s with their Heritage Cherry finishes, not looking as fine as this Epi EB-0's Cherry finish. Like I keep saying, it sure appears to me, Gibson is getting Epiphone to release guitars, and basses for an affordable price. I looked at both Epi SG, and LP 6 stringers recently. Wow! Why pay the price tag, unless the Gibson name on it is that important. The Epi QC is somewhat better than Gibson's anyway.

As the former owner of a mid-90s Epi LP, and current owner of a '90s Sheraton-II, '14 G400 (SG), and 2019 Gibson LP Standard 60s and 2019 Flying V... I completely disagree.
Epiphones are not bad.
They are as good or better than anything else coming out of Indonesia.
Gibson can be hit and miss on QC... so can Epiphone, but I have absolutely no issues or complaints about my Gibsons.
My next new guitar will probably be an SG '61, at which point I will probably sell the Epiphone... and selling a guitar is something I rarely do. I love the SG design, but I've just never bonded with this Epiphone.

For a <$500 bass to noodle around with, I would absolutely consider an Epiphone EB right along side an Ibanez SR series.

Yeah, at least there is the music still around, even though the time itself isn't. If I were around back then, it would have been highly likely I'd have wound up going on the same Southeast Asian vacation you did, with all expense paid by Uncle Sam. As it was, I was a little nervous about having to register for Selective Service when I turned 18, and Desert Storm started up. Then again, as big as our military was at that time and still is, we'd be in really bad shape if they needed to draft my sorry arse. :P I don't think they've even drafted anyone since Vietnam, have they?

That's about the same price as their flats, as well, at AMS. They don't have the nylons there, though. I looked, but they did have them with La Bella, but they are only long scale. Have you ever needed to use back up strings at any time?

That does sound like a good bass and amp combination. 8) I do know that bass does sound good through a 4 x 10" cab, at least with a Hartke one, and head, as well.

I really can't vouch for Gibsons or Epiphones, since I've only played on them in shops and never owned any, but I've had pretty good luck with Ibanez, for the most part. I suppose QC on a lot of these companies that mass produce stuff like that can be not set in stone. I've had similar issues with Fenders and Squiers, with Fenders being more problematic. I guess it all depends on who's working that day, and if they are in a crap mood or not. :P

My buds and I used to joke about "Ibeenhad", but honestly, I've never picked up an Ibanez that I would have any problem playing a gig at a stadium with. I've done pickups swaps for a friend on an AS80 (335), bought my daughter a JS100 to learn on, and played a bunch of RGs, JEMs, and older "lawsuit" models.
Ibanez has their s___ together and knows how to build good stuff.

I'm still bummed that the daughter didn't tell me that she was selling the JS100... I would have given her $200 more than what I'm sure she got for it. As much as I really don't care for the Floyd Rose system, I loved that guitar.

I've always thought that they had neck feeling necks on them, basses or guitars, and they do have a hell of a lot of models to choose from, with different price ranges. Even their low price models aren't too shabby. I have a Talman TMB30 short scale bass that I got for around $180 new, and it's a nice bass. It came set up with low action, and didn't need anything done to it, other than me just putting flats on it, out of personal preference. The pickups on it are decent, too. I've certainly got more than my money's worth out of it, that's for sure.

I'm not too keen with Floyd Roses, either. Fortunately, they do offer a few models with a fixed bridge, so you don't have to mess with that. I guess if you're used to playing with those and used to them, it's not a big deal, although I've known a lot of guitarists that found them to be a pain in the arse, especially with stringing up and tuning them. I'm mainly a bassist, so that's something I don't even typically deal with, anyway.

No, I never needed to use the extra sets as an emergency back up. I've never had strings break, or go dead. I have used them on say a new bass, instead of buying a new set for it at that time.

When I first started playing for the first couple of years, I had wound up breaking a couple of strings, mainly a couple of the "G" strings. One time, I managed to break an "E" string, which I don't remember how in the hell I pulled that off. I used to hit the strings really hard, so maybe that's how that happened. I've certainly learned not to do that over the years, having more dynamics and all of that.

Over the years, I've noticed that when I played a lesser powered amp, I tended to play the strings harder. Like you said too, after awhile, a bit of finesse in playing sets in. I play a lot lighter than I used too, and part of that has to do with the strings being used as well. Pups have a part in the playing style also. The more powerful a pup, or pups are, somewhat can dictate the playing styles too. This Humbucking on the EB-0, has enough voltage going into the amp to be almost an active pup. Pappalardi's overdriven sounds into the Sunns. One damn good Humbucking on that EB-1 of his.
