I think it's great the Danelectro is still around. Too bad the Coral basses aren't. They were made by Danelectro. I'm not going to get into the Mosrites again. Other than to say they were a top notch bass, and guitar as well.

Wasn't Coral the one that was the electric sitar model? They still make those by the way, but I don't think they use the Coral name anymore. I even like the Danelectro guitars a lot, probably to the point it was one of my favorite guitars I've played on by feel. The only real issue I had with the bass was they had some heavy gauge rounds on it that didn't feel the best, but then again, I've been used to playing light gauge flats, so that's just me. The strap thing wasn't that big of a deal, just something to adjust to.

Mosrite is kind of an anomaly in some ways. There's been so many clones of it, and there was at one point where the guy's daughter or granddaughter started making them, so where they the actual, official models, or not? I've tried to look her up again a while back, but that's disappeared, so I don't know. I guess if you want one enough, there's probably some kind available somewhere, in some version.

Coral did do the electric sitar model. Ron's Coral bass was really a good player, but he bought it used, and it had a chunk out of the fretboard. Yeah, the Mosrites were one of those gone, and up again, then gone I guess. They were a very popular instrument that was copied a lot. The Ventures Series was I believe what Lee Dorman played.

I remember you talking about some sort of Coral bass amp, too. I guess The Ventures were the main group around using Mosrites, weren't they?

The Ventures were early on using the Mosrite guitars, and amps. The Coral Kilowatt amp.

Yeah, the Coral Kilowatt amp. I remember that, but couldn't find much info about it at the time. I looked it up again, and found a couple for sale. Here's one of them: https://reverb.com/item/21775530-coral- ... tage-69-70 Interesting looking amp.

I found another page concerning Mosrite. Maybe this is the "official" or the one related to the daughter. I think it might be: http://www.semiemoseley.us/

The 8X12 cab sounds right with Coral head. I seem to remember seeing a magazine advertisement with two cabs. I could be wrong, that was a long time ago now. It's still amazing though how little is shown of this amp for searches.

I think that cab was wired to it at certain way, and not plugged in by a jack. If you look at the pics in the page I linked to the one for sale, it does have some sort of strange inputs in the back, and I think the seller said they did rig a jack for it to hook up regular cabs.

Could be, about anything could be possible. Funny how they didn't go over.

Yeah, considering how powerful they were. Maybe it was poor promotion of the product, or the fact it was wired up to the cab that way? Most amps you have a jack to hook into, so maybe that was a turn off to that? Do you remember it being an expensive amp, or not? There's also that factor.

There was so little information about it in 1969, when it was out.
The second series of the Iron Butterfly group had promos, with Mosrite for guitars, and basses. They did the same with Vox for amps. Doug Ingle was already using a Vox Continental Organ from the first series of the Iron Butterfly group. Those Venture Series Mosrite's did have a good tone with the Vox Super Beatle amps too.

I guess it just wasn't promoted that much, then. I had never even heard about it until you mentioned it the first time, but that doesn't really mean anything, because I wasn't around when it came out, and I had never seen one in any music shop that had any old gear in it. Then again, there's always been gear like that, even when I got started playing. Do you remember Tube Works (I think that was the name) bass amps from like the late 80's, going into the 90's? I believe they had some sort of 300 watt bass combo, maybe a head, and guitar amps, too. I remember seeing those in some shop somewhere, but then they eventually disappeared from the market.

I think I've actually seen some sort of old adverts with Iron Butterfly endorsing that gear. Those Vox Super Beatle amps were the top thing back in the 60's, weren't they, at least in the US? I've seen a few movies like "The Trip" and "Psych Out" where the bands in them used those. Come to think of it, I think Strawberry Alarm Clock was in one of those two movies.

The Vox Super Beatles were a kicking amp plus back then. I loved seeing them in the stores. The newer series of Vox Super Beatles peaked at 240 watts. Sunn, Marshall, and the other pending newcomers took the Vox Super Beatles place. I like to listen to Iron Butterfly's, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida album, and from what I remember hearing them live with the Vox Super Beatles. In my mind I can separate the sounds to hear the amps tones, with the limited fuzz boxes, wha-wha pedals etc. running through them. They were very good sousing amps.

I went to one of the local GC's today to check out an Epi EB-0 to compare to my Viola. They had one in the box new, that the rep opened in front of me. I plugged it into an amp, and nothing. No sound! I tried two other amps with the EB-0, and NOTHING! The Irony of the entire session, that EB-0 has a finer grain in the body, then most Gibson SG Std.'s do.
So while I was there, I checked out a few other basses to my Viola. For me they weren't even close. I thanked John for the time, did a quick wipe down on the Viola, put it in the case, and drove home with a chuckle. The Epi EB-0 was an 2018 Indonesian. My Viola is a 2018 Chinese. Not that maters, but,.......... I kinda' do like my Viola after all.

Here's the Vox Showroom page about them: http://www.voxshowroom.com/us/amp/beat.html This is a really great site about Vox amps, besides those.
