I picked up my first bass guitar the other day. Gently used standard jazz bass. Based on the serial number it was made sometime between 2001-2008. I slapped new set of strings on her, cleaned it up and gave it a setup.

It's a lot different from guitar (which I mainly play) but so far really digging it. I have a lot to learn. Getting the finger style to sound smooth is a lot harder than I thought.

Welcome to the deep end of life djwhitjr! You can look up your serial number on guitardaterproject.org plus you can email your serial to Fender Consumer Relations and ask for all the information they have and they will send you the spec sheet.

The Jazz bass is always a good choice (just like Weber grills), and yes playing smoothly fingerstyle takes practice. If you are looking for a good bass amp be sure to check out Fender Rumble. They rock with the best of 'em.

Congratulations on your new bass! 8) I remember those in that finish. It's been a long time since I've seen that.

What did Fender call that color? Something like Midnight Wine?

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Yeah, it was called Midnight Wine. I forget when they stopped using it, though. Probably 10 years ago.
