Best advice I'd give is listen to the songs and bassists you like, and listen over and over. Once you've got their tone, touch and feel tattoo'd to your brain, sit down with your bass (for weeks, months, years, whatever it takes) and work it out. There's no easy way.

I reccomend the fender bass pack.
Its cheap for what you get.
It includes a cable, a jazz bass, a rumble amp, head phones, and more.
Its pretty cheap for what you get out of it.
It costs around 250.
That way if you dont like it, you didnt waste much money.

The Fender Bass Pack would be an excellent choice.

Eh, the bass that comes with that isn't very good. For a little more money I'd get one of the Vintage Modified Squiers, or maybe one of the new "Classic Vibe" Squiers. The little extra dough is well spent there.

I would say first pick something in your price range but if you want an easy learner pick up a Bronco bass or Jazz bass because of very thin necks and because they can always fit your price range by squier or fender

I agree with what Mastermold said, the bass pack is not that great of a bargain if you look at what you get. Get the Squier VM or Vibe Series. CrazyAaron777 said it best tho, price range is key.

Get the best bass you can comfortably afford. There is a big difference between low priced basses and higher priced ones in playability. When you do get one, no matter what the price range, spend the extra if you have to, and have someone decent set it up for you.

After that, get the basics down, and find some other folks interested in playing with you. That's the best way to learn past the early beginner stage.
