I bought a set of original Jazz Bass pickups but there is no indication of which way round they go apart from one which has a blue dot and the other which has a red dot. It doesn't say anywhere on the wiring diagram which is neck and which is bridge. When I used the multimeter one is at 6.8 and the other at 7. How can I tell which is which?

The hotter pickup (likely the one with the red dot on the bottom) is the bridge pickup.

Usually you can tell by the size. The bridge pickup should be slightly longer then the neck pickup. This is due to the string spacing is wider towards the bridge then towards to the neck. That is typical with most replacement pickups for Jazz basses.

Thanks to both of you - you were right; you couldn't tell unless you looked closely at the pickups that the bridge pickup is longer than the neck, and the red dot means bridge. Isn't it strange that Fender do not mention this in the wiring diagram that they include. Both p/us fitted now.
