Would love to buy a FENDER AMERICAN DELUXE JAZZ BASS 4 STRING; MAYBE A 5. It may be around mid October when I'm able to afford it. I've seen an example of a fretless 4 string on youtube that sounded great; but I'm more of a fretted player.
Does anyone know if fretless and fretted have the same sounds? Can anyone give me more insight on the tones that you can get from the fretted version. I have three other basses now; Austin 4/5 string; and a Peavey t-40 4 string. I've always wanted a great sounding bass but never could afford one. Also; if anyone could reccomend a great sounding amp and cab for this bass I would appreciate it. I was thinking of a Peavey 700 Tour Series; and their 410 Tour bass cab. My spending limit is about $3,500.00. Being a Christmas Baby, I plan to have all I need by then. And the gear i have now will be taken to guitar center as trade in to help bring me real happiness. "PLEASE HELP". :)

Wow, that's no chump change you got to spend. That's the total of the spending you'll be doing, you should be ok and might even have some change in your pocket.

Let's start with the bass - yes fretless will sound different, no much, but enough to know it's fretless. Basically, any Jazz bass will give you the same tone, a few variations here and there. But you're getting a AS Jazz bass, pretty much almost top of the line on Fender Jazz basses. This is where your amp will make a difference in the sound/tone you want.

The amp you speak off, it's pretty much the top line for Peavey IIRC, so yeah you'll get a good sound (great even). Peaveys are bullet proof, easy to use, great customer service too. You can't go wrong with Peavey. I would still check around for other amps, preferably with the new bass so you can set up the amps you're trying out with the same bass all the time to get the objective result you're looking for.

One last thing, have fun shopping and welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the help on the deluxe jazz bass...I feel a connection with that bass. My wife isn't too fond of me having it but The Deluxe is calling me. As far as the amp; have you tried the Fender TB-600 Head? I like the 9 band EQ on the Peavey, but I want to make sure I get the best for my money. Peavey Tour 700 is 479.99 and Fender TB-600 is 999.99. Any suggestions on he differences between the both...Anyone?

The only difference is the Fender is a 600w head. You can't go wrong with either one of them. Peaveys are known to be work horses, so do Fenders. Fender's new Pro series bass amp are supposed to be hot. I've not played with 'em yet, but thier stacks have always been a good choice.

Can I tell you something, wifes are never happy when you spend money on something you don't need, especially something that's costing you(and her) lots of money, like a bass and bass gear.

Good luck.
