Just wondering if anyone has had a chance to play one of these yet. I've wanted to pick up a Jazz for a while now, without spending too much (I'm mainly a 'P' player, really a P-J player) and this seemed right up my alley. Any feedback would be appreciated. They list at $1049.99 and sell for about $700. Check out the link below...

I wasn't really looking for a bunch of people to tell me "it looks really cool". I was looking more for honest opinions, from people who had played one personally, off a showroom floor.

Ohhhh , Ok !

I played the Geddy Lee model which is basically the same bass minus the bridge and it sounds killer ! Try it before buying of course ! But a 70's Fender Jazz bass for 700 dollars I wouldnt think twice !Ive never been dissapointed by a Jazz bass !

I bought one. It's awesome. I had an original 70's Jazz bass, (in the 70's) & it's very similiar to that one when it was new. The neck is fast & smooth. The binding is flawless. The tone is punchy & bright. The sunburst finish is really well done, especially on the back where the wood grain is clearly visible.

It's much lighter than a 70's bass, which is good for my back! It was great right out of the box. No setup necessary. Action was perfect & the pickups were set just right.

I have a MIJ reissue 70's Jazz as well & this feels better. At $699 this is a steal.

I own 2 actual 70's Jazzes so my opinion wouldn't count.
I haven't played that model(s) you're referring to; i'd like to hear some opinions myself.
I'm looking at the 75 RI or the Squire VM Jazz; the 75 looks just like my 73 except i have a white pg. I've plucked around on the VM's before, they're sweeeet!!!

I love the Black Block look....but i wouldn't dare take my 73 Black Block out to play anywhere...that's a shame.

The one I bought is sunburst /rosewood with MOP block markers on it. It's really nice. It's MIM & it's very well made. If you like the black block look, you may want to check out the Geddy Lee model. I'm not a fan of Rush, but it's a nice bass. I have 2, 70's P basses that I never take out of the house except to record now. So I know what you mean, however, seriously this is a nice bass.

I would stay away from the squire. Unless you are going to play sitting down that is... the few I've played have weighed a ton (all ash is not created equal). Probably a great bass to pick up if you're a guitar player and you need something for the home studio, or a student just picking it up, but other than that.....

Also, I finally had the chance to play one of the 70's J's at the local GC and I have to say I wasn't impressed. The Geddy Lee is a much nicer bass in my (not so) humble opinion, but I was hoping for a Rosewood board. I think I'm going to have to invest in one of the '75's too.

Update:

I recently had the chance to play a couple more of these basses and I have to say they were much better than the first one I tried out last year. I actually had my emergency allen wrench set in my wallet so I tweaked the bridge saddle height on one of the ones I was playing and it made a marked improvement. I just wish the guys at Guitar Center would take the.... maybe 5 minutes, to make sure these things were at least half way set up before they put them on the wall.

Not bad sounding pickups either, although if I picked one up I'd probably look into at least replacing the neck pickup. Thanks again Fender for a great Bass at the price point.
