Hello.

Bought a new Am Pro Jazz Bass last week, and had some time to bond with it over the weekend. Fantastic sound, love the neck, feel. It just feels right. Exactly what i wanted. The sustain is incredible, and much better than my other basses. And here lies my concern as well. Been reading about every forum post i could find about it; The dreaded dead spot. It is situated in the usual D (7th fret) G string. The sustain is considerable less in this note. 3-4 seconds, then goes over into harmonics. If i Play the note fast and move on it is not a problem, but would be if I wanted this note hanging.

Sent an email to Fender about it, but they needed to hear the problem note first, and advised me to take it to a fender dealer.

From the countless forum posts I have read, a lot of people say if you want the great sustain and fender tone, just live with it, as most if not all Jazz basses and other bolt on basses have them. If this is the case, theres really no problem... Although some others say they would never buy a bass with dead spots. So im not so sure. Its a shame really, cause I love the bass in every other aspect.

so option 1: Keep the bass, get a good setup done, smile and play it like theres no tomorrow.

option 2: Return it for full refund, or order another one, with no guarentee that one also doesnt have a dead spot.

Hopefully some guys here with great experience with fender basses can chime in, and help me. I thought going to am pro level, and with the reinforced carbon necks etc, would cure this. But as I have read it can happen quite often from squire all the way to custom shop.

Thanks for reading.

I never buy a guitar if I can't try it before.
All guitar ( or bass ) are unique, some are better than other in same model same years.

No store in your area ? Good luck

Sadly no, thats very far. Have ordered before and had no problems with this, but i agree trying the instrument is always the best deal. However, i do love the bass in question. Just if the dead spots are as normal as everyone is saying, so its not a big deal, or it would be advisable to return it for another.
