I just picked up a Mex Jazz & am unhappy with the pickups; can anyone suggest a replacement pickup that has some balls?

Thanks!

Maybe you should tell us more on what balls mean? Since we don't know what kind of music you need this bass for. To me balls mean EMG, to others '62 RI Jazz bass sound.

Yeah, upon reflection "balls" is fairly vague; I have recently switched music styles from Skynyrd, KW Shepherd, Jimi, SRV type stuff (I mostly used a Hot-Rod '99 Precision - stock pickups) to a greater variety - mostly 70's/80's pop. The Jazz lacks the volume & presence of the Precision & I know I shouldn't expect the Jazz to sound like the Precision, but the difference is night & day.
I have read that many Mex Jazz owners have replaced the pickups & am assuming that my dissatisfaction mirrors theirs.

Thanks for your input!

I can tell you the EMG's are awsome pickups if you like a clean tone hi fi sound . If you prefer vintage I suggest Seymour Duncan quarter pounder . Thats my own experience .I havent heard the Bill Lawrence pickups but I read good reviews about them . Nordstrand pickups are also good according to some good reviews in Bass Player magazine . As well as the reissue pickups from Fender .

I agree with the Duncan suggestion too. LF makes punchy funky sound like the '62 according to plenty of people here. Like I said, with the music I play, EMGs for me - that's not dissing anyone that likes anything else.

Hey guys...I wasn't being sarcastic; I do appreciate your feedback & input. I don't know where the emoticon came from - I didn't intentionally use one.

Lindy Fralins and DiMarzios are worth considering too.
