With the addition of the Mustang PJ, I basically have two PJ's with a Jazz neck. The Mustang PJ is a short Jazz neck, but it has the 1.5" nut. The USA GL Jazz is of course the standard style Jazz. The short scale wit its Precision pup is pretty damn cool.

I wonder if you could swap out the necks between the two, or if that would actually fit? They seem to generally have the same dimensions at the body end, at least.

Not that I'm going to, but that would be interesting to see how close the dimensions are at the body, neck cavity, of the two.

It would make for some interesting hybrid instruments, if it worked, I think.

It would come to think of it.

If I had the basses, and wasn't worried or afraid to screw anything up, I'd try it out, just to see what it would look and feel like.

I know what you mean. I like my stuff too much to take a chance messing them up for no real reason. I don't have much play money either. I really stretched it on the changing out the gear lately.

Yeah, that's the thing. Those basses aren't exactly pocket change with their costs. I suppose if you had some beater basses that weren't a big deal, then that would be a lot easier to mess with. People like to take things like Squiers and Rondo music guitars and mess with them all of the time. If you screw something up bad, you're not out of a lot of money invested in the initial purchase.

Then again, even modding those instruments, you could wind up putting a lot of money into them. I remember looking at getting a replacement neck to some bass (I forget which one, maybe the Peavey, because I thought I couldn't fix it at the time,) and the friggin' neck cost like twice as much, or as much as I paid for the bass, not even counting hardware, if needed. That's especially true with the Warmoth Guitar stuff. Sure, I've heard they are supposed to be good stuff that people build their own instruments from, but like the cost of the neck alone I could have just got a whole used bass that was in better shape than what I was trying to fix up.

That's very true, talking about diminishing returns. Replacement parts on a lot of things sometimes just don't add up.

Yeah, I was looking at the Warmoth site when I wrote about that, and they had a replacement Jazz neck made from some sort of dark wood, which I forget, unless I look at it again, and it was almost $500! I'm sure it was nice quality and all of that, but you could almost buy a new MIM Jazz for that, and definitely a used one, I'm sure. It's built in the US, so there is that to factor in with prices, I suppose. But still, imagine putting that on a $100 to $200 Squier, to replace it's neck. Would the cost even justify doing that?

Image My Mustang PJ is $550. For the entire bass. That's half the price of the Special Edition Deluxe PJ Bass. That's a lot of cash. Is that with hardware for it as well? For that price the hardware should be set in place. Just me though.

That neck was just it, and I don't think it came with tuners. I suppose if you compare it to something like a bass that costs $3000 or more, then maybe it might not seem as expensive, but then again, I seriously hope you don't need to replace the neck on a $3000 bass in the first place.

Right you are Paul. Without the hardware, that'a a lot. No kidding about the $3,000. bass needing a new neck also.

Yeah, at least I'd certainly hope not.
