Yeah, that was the beginning of that. Well, technically not the beginning, since tube tech is actually 100 years old, but at least in that context for what they were used for.

Tubes at one time were considered a working miracle on their onset. Like the transistors were also.

I guess the transistors had their growing pains for amps at the time, though. They needed to work on that. I suppose they were great for radios, though.

All of a sudden folks were walking around with little Lloyds transistor radios, powered by 9 volt batteries to their ears. I was one of them.

I remember coming across a website a long time ago, to where the person featured a collection of transistor radios. I guess they collected them. There were all kinds shown.

There were a lot of those early transistor radios a round back then.

Yeah, and bigger ones, too. You know, I had an old radio that might have been one of your earliest ones that played cassettes. It was pretty cool. It had all kinds of inputs for it for microphones, plus built in mics, and I think even did shortwave radio, and other bells and whistles. My oldest brother gave it to me, and I guess he had it for years. Unfortunately, there was some screwed up power surge that happened in the area when it was plugged in an outlet in the garage, and fried it. It was some crap that happened with Florida Power, I don't remember. That sucked, since they didn't make them anymore, and I never saw another one like it.

I don't remember seeing too many of the bigger ones with the extra stuff on them.

It's possible it could have been from the early 80's, but it did seem older than that.

Electronics really got smaller quick with transistors.

Yeah, especially with the microchip, and all of that.

Yet there is all of this software dedicated to emulating tube gear and tape.

Since I've been getting into chill/jazz hop I've been looking into Plug Ins to rough up the sound a bit.

They certainly have a ton of plug ins out there.

It's almost mind boggling.
