Even after using the short scales, and used to that, I still find the neck of the Squier Jazz still pretty playable. I imagine the Fender ones a little nicer than that, even. I'd like to think so, because they certainly cost more. The Ric isn't as big of a neck, isn't it? Don't they have a slightly shorter scale to them?

The 4003 is a 33.5" scale, to the 34" scale of the Jazz. The 4003 radius board, is a 10", the Jazz is a 9.5" radius board. I don't really go by the higher priced basses, or amps, it just works out that way for me anyway.

What's the nut width on the Ric, do you know?

42.9 Ric 4003 / 41.3 Precision, Just a bit wider than a Fender Precision, but the 4003 has a flatter, thin back of the neck.

The flat back of the neck on the 4003, and the 10" radius board helps me with small hands, and fingers to get a better feel, and reach playing it over a Precision.

It's kind of strange how the neck of a Precision bass seems so much wider than basses that are technically wider than it. Even my Ibanez short scale is a little wider, but it's also a shorter neck, and flatter radius.

It may have to do with the shape of the back of the necks, comparing Precisions to any other with nut widths greater.

I think so. It just seems that the Precision has a larger neck on it for some reason.

I think the Precision gets pretty good size at the 12th fret, and lower.

I will say, if you're used to that, it's one hell of a player, and sounds good.

Do you mean the Ric, or the Precision?

The Precision, but you could say both, actually. The main reason I sold the Precision I had was because I was also playing the violin bass, getting used to that, and it was problematic going between the two. It was a decent bass. Although, the nicest one that I had was that 50's reissue model from back in the 90's. It was white, with the gold pickguard, and maple fretboard. That was one of those basses that was stupid to get rid of, but that's water under the bridge, now. You know how that goes.

Yeah, I think everyone here has probably done that at one point or another. If not everyone, at least a good 75% have. I suppose the good thing is I can get a decent P Bass tone with the Ibanez, because it does have that pickup in it.

The 4003 puts out a good Precision sound. A little playing around with the settings on it, and it's there. It's fairly versatile with the 3 position switch for the pups.

I've always been curious about the stereo jack, or I guess they call it "Rick-O-Sound" input. There's been only a few times in my playing career that I've ever even had two amplifiers to even utilize that, but of course, I'd also need to have an actually Rickenbacker to plug it in.
