Yeah, I'm not sure which way I want to go now. One thing I'm not that sure about, if I'll wind up with a Bassman 800, or Bassman 500 if it's a Fender head. I don't have the room to split the two cabs. The two 2X210 cabs does sound interesting. Each HD210 cab is rated for 500 watts. So the two should handle the TX600 at 600 watts.

Interesting to see Silvertones as popular as they are. I never thought I'd see that.

I have a feeling you'll probably wind up with a Bassman head, since the GAS has already set in for it. That's how it usually goes, at least for me. :P

I don't know, as far as the Silvertones are concerned. Maybe it's nostalgia from when people were starting out playing, or at least the Baby Boomer generation, who had them, originally, or other people that think they are cool because of the 1960's connection. I get like that, too. I wanted a Vox Foundation cab for my bass rig, not because it's some sonically awesome piece of gear, because it looked friggin' cool. :P I suppose another thing is you could also buy them dirt cheap at one time, when a lot of people started buying them, especially someone famous might used them, Like Jack White, but then they get popular afterwards, and the price gets jacked up. I guess you can say that about anything, though.

I don't know myself about Silvertones being sought after today as they are, but I fill most or all of the people you mentioned with Silvertones. Baby boomer, started out with one, and they were damn well made amps.

Yes Paul, I'll agree with you about acquiring the Bassman head again. I'm still a bit on the fence for which Bassman to go for. $200.00 is a hefty difference, but for adding 150 watts between the the two heads on my 8 ohm cab, it may be not that much extra to add to it, and get it over with.

I suppose the fact that a lot of those amps are still around and running must mean something. You have to figure they are at least 50 years old, at the youngest, with most of them older than that. The 60's was a long time ago. It's kind of strange, when you think about that, but then again, I was born right in the beginning of the next decade, so it doesn't have that same impact of time perception, as someone who's in their 20's or even 30's.

Well, either one of those should probably work for you, so I guess the main thing is do you want to, or can you justify the extra $200? I know I can't, that's why I'm going for the PF800 over the SVT-7 Pro, because I know that's all I can swing. Oh speaking of that, AMS just sent me an email that they are having a "blemish sale" and they have an PF800 marked down to $485.95, for a non-factory sealed model, which is knocking another $54 off it's price. It friggin' figures they'd do something like that when I don't have the cash yet. I don't know how long they are going to have the sale going for, either.

Guess what, it's on! I decided to contact that person back about the Orange and I'm selling it tonight! When I get the cash, I'm calling up AMS. Pretty soon there will be some Amplified Peg coming my way. 8)

YES!!! That's great. Do the Orange, and be free of it. No matter how good an amp is, if you don't really want to hang on to it, move it when you can. Unfortunately, an Orange is not that popular with some players.

It's done and done! I finally sold the Orange, put the cash in the bank, and ordered the Ampeg PF800, which should be here within the next couple of days. The one thing that was a bummer, is AMS now charges sales tax, and I had to pay an extra $34 on the head, which cost me an additional $19 over the $500 that I got from the Orange. It's still a pretty good deal, since they knocked off $54 in the first place, and I still made a profit on the Orange head in the first place.

They must have just recently implemented charging sales tax on gear, because I didn't have to do that when I bought the Ibanez from them, which was back in the beginning of May, at least, according to the date of the photo I first took of it on Facebook. I guess the only advantage they now have over buying anything locally is their return policy and customer service, plus payment plans, if need be. Plus, they have fast delivery, and I don't have to leave the house. It's strange, because my girlfriend just ordered some stuff from Amazon, and she didn't have to pay sales tax on it. Maybe it's some company thing, and not some state law, which I think is the case in California, but I'm not sure.

By the way, I finally plugged the Ibanez into the Orange head, and the Fender cab, so I could make a quick video to show the guy that the amp works, since we were meeting up in a Home Depot parking lot to make the deal (we always do that when selling anything,) and there wouldn't really be a way to do that there. It sounded OK, but obviously I needed to tweek it a bit, because I had the treble cranked because of the way it was sounding with the violin bass, but nothing that would make me regret selling it, sans the fact the amp is loud as hell. To be honest, no regrets there to finally be able to get rid of it. I mean, I could make it work, but there was something sonically that never 100% clicked with me. It really didn't gel with my sound. I think you might know what I mean. It's not that it's a bad amp, it just wasn't for me, sonically. I'll bet it will be amazing for someone else, though. I think gear is personal like that, kind of like favorite foods or drinks, that sort of thing.

Yes Paul, I do know exactly what you mean about the sound just isn't what sounds are right for a playing style. Been there many times myself. When I was on the road, it wasn't that unusual for some big name bands I worked with to change an amp out in the next city. If there was no endorsement deals to worry about, why not. I guess that's where some of the attitude I have for doing the same thing with my personal gear is from.

CONGRATS on moving the Orange. You really did the smooth move on selling it. Like I mentioned the other day, Orange gear for as well made as they are, don't always get the respect from players as a top quality amp. The Ampeg should work out great for you.
Now you can post the Ampeg in the Any Last Day Of the Year additions? in the forum. Your Ampeg is ROAD REX APPROVED!!! Image

Yeah, I'll make a post over there, and maybe in the other thread about using amps other the Fender that's around here somewhere, and we can close this up, unless you have anything to add about your Ric. At least we'll be on topic. :P

The guy I sold the amp to contacted us today and said he liked the amp, which I'm glad to hear, actually. He did get a good deal on it, I got my new Ampeg, and it's all good. 8) Like I was saying, it wasn't the sound for me, but it doesn't mean it wouldn't be for someone else.

No, about the only thing I can say about the Ric, I'm glad I'm keeping it, and the Nylons really play well with it.

The Ric, and the USA GL. I do favor the Jazz.

Yeah, it does seem like Jazzes have been your top pick.

A Jazz is just my fit. I never thought a Jazz would be my choice over a short scale. I do prefer the 4003 over a Precision though. I like the shape of the neck, and the 4003 is a 10" radius.

Even after using the short scales, and used to that, I still find the neck of the Squier Jazz still pretty playable. I imagine the Fender ones a little nicer than that, even. I'd like to think so, because they certainly cost more. The Ric isn't as big of a neck, isn't it? Don't they have a slightly shorter scale to them?
