Yeah, I remember that. There were certainly plenty back in the day. It's kind of ironic that there's now a huge amount of bass gear around, especially with amps, than there was back then. A lot cheaper, too.

It is a sad irony about it.

I picked up the Wingmaster today. A tight, and smooth 12 Ga., with a trigger that has a sweet let off on it. Image I have a 20" Improved Cylinder bore barrel coming in on Wed., the 28th from Remington. The shorter barrel is a bit safer to use in a defensive mode. It's quicker, and easier to handle in close quarters. Also, the shorter barrel is harder for an intruder to grab on to it, and try to pull the shotgun away from the defender. Six inches longer of a barrel doesn't sound like much, but it is when it's mounted on a receiver.

Yeah, I imagine that would make a difference in that situation.

I know it sounds like I take it lightly, but I don't. It's one of the grimmest situations that can be played out, defending the family, and the dwelling.

Getting back to your Orange, that may turn out to be a keeper amp after all. It's fairly compact, a very well made amp, and has the power.

Well, it's a keeper in the fact that if I can't sell it, I'm stuck with it. :P Seriously though, I wouldn't say "stuck with" is the appropriate term to describe it, anyway. I got one hell of a deal with it, which is why I even have it, and you're right, there are a lot of pluses to it, more than any negatives, and the negative that I do have is that I don't have enough EQ options to play nice with the violin bass, or I could say I'm not happy with the way the two sound together. At least I wasn't when I did use them last, unless I added the MXR Preamp to the mix. Other than that, it's a killer amp. I still haven't played the Ibanez through it, so who knows how that's going to react? I probably won't even play through it until the next couple of months or so, whenever the next live opportunity comes up. Right now, there's been other stuff going on with recording, and filming a music video, and whatever else.

Your pups, and strings may not play well with the Orange on the Violin. Who knows. A hollow body bass may not in general play well with that particular Orange Bass amp model.

The 20" Improved Cylinder 12 GA barrel showed up today. After an inspection, and wiping it down, it was set into the receiver. There's something that looks more ominous about having a 12 GA, with a 20", or 18" barrel on it. I just now hope I never have to use it as a defensive deterrent.

Yeah, there is that factor, although, it does sound good through the Fender amp, but maybe the Fender has more fidelity, if that is the right description for that. Also, that was a cheap bass that cost me $100, so I doubt I'm going to have the same sonic quality as I might with a $2000 Hofner, or I'd certainly hope so. I guess when I eventually play the Ibanez through it, then I can really see how it does.

Yeah, I'd say so. At least you don't have to worry about it, in case something does happen. Things have been getting crazy around these days, so you never know. I think the one time you especially have to worry is i you get another hurricane rip through there and take out your power and all of that. That's when the crap hits the fan, usually.

The .45, and the 9mm's will do their job, but the 12GA definitely is King Kong looking for a Banana. It's a 5 shot, one shell in the chamber, and four in the magazine tube. Fire your first shot, maybe two, then load a shell or two to replace the one, or ones fired. It's fast, and efficient. Big 12 GA shells load quickly.

The model of your Orange, may be more suited for flat our power, and not the tone qualities your Fender is able to put out. It may not have anything to do with what bass is run through it at lower volumes.

What about a pistol grip on it, or is it better to have the standard stock on it for your purposes?

The one thing I've noticed that Orange seems to cater to is your hard rock, or actually more so heavy metal kind of genre, with their typical endorsements and videos, but that's usually a lot of guitar stuff, more than bass, and the bass stuff is they are all about the overdrive/distortion sound with their amps, including this one. It's not exactly something catering to your jazz type tones, or you'd want to run an upright bass through, although, I suppose you could. I can get a pretty clean tone out of it by keeping the gain low, but any overdrive isn't what's bothering me with the violin bass, it's more of a clarity thing, not midrange cloudiness, if that makes sense. You do have a point about it, though. Like I've said, I'll see how it does with the Ibanez, since that does have a P and J pickup configuration on it, and a brighter tone, which I've noticed with the Fender amp, using the same settings that were set for the violin bass.

That's kinda personal preference on that. That was one of the design differences I preferred with an M14 over an M16A1, was the standard stock on the M14 as on a Remington 870 shotgun stock, or 700 BDL rifle. I don't think I ever really liked a pistol grip on a long weapon.
