I fired the Colt Delta Elite 10mm, the S&W 1006 10mm, and the Bren Ten 10mm. For about 30 years, I used an H&K USP Compact .40S&W. A .40S&W is basically a 10mm short. The first .40S&W I had was a S&W model 4006. I reloaded for it, and it was as hot as 41 Magnum rounds. I was cutting through 3/8 boiler plate, 50 - 75 feet down range. Hotter than 10mm.

I guess the 10mm has been making a bit of a comeback the past couple of years. Ruger and even Sig Sauer has some models available. I remember seeing the Bren Ten in the first season of Miami Vice. That was the first model chambered for it, wasn't it? I also remember reading about the Colt Delta Elite when that came out. If I'm not mistaken, I think they are making those again, as well.

Right, the Bren Ten was the first 10mm, and was used in Miami Vice for a bit. It got to be to expensive, and just plain hard to acquire the Bren Ten magazines. Don Johnson kept dropping them into too many deep water location shots. After the Bren Ten, Don was issued a S&W 1006 10mm.
I was going to become a Peregrine Falcon firearms distributor before they closed down. They had purchase the Bren Ten name, designs, etc. They were in Huntington Beach, CA at that time.

I read what happened here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bren_Ten#cite_note-4 Apparently, two other companies attempted to make them, but so far, nothing has come from it. It's kind of strange, since it's pretty much a beefed up CZ-75 or a Tanfoglio/EAA Witness, which is a CZ-75 clone, and also comes chambered in 10mm. I wonder what the issue is?

That was a good write up on the Bren Ten.
I didn't see in the reading, if they mentioned it, but the 10mm cartridge has extreme chamber pressures at discharge. It beats up, and shakes loose the pistol pretty quickly. Metal fatigue, and frame cracks aren't uncommon on some 10mm pistols. The slide blows violently back, slams at the slide stop railings extremely hard. Recoil springs need to be replaced if frequently shot. Frames that are originally 1911 .45ACP, converted to 10mm need to be periodically checked for metal fatigue, or cracking. Aluminum frames don't make it.

Yeah, it's a powerful cartridge, from what I've read. People even use it for handgun hunting, and self defense against bear attacks. The Sirius Dog Sled Patrol of Greenland carry Glock 20s as a defense against polar bear attacks, since 9mm cartridges were insufficient. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sirius_Do ... #Equipment It's probably the only military force that uses a 10mm. I read about them in that article, and I have to say that's a tough gig.

It definitely has the power, and penetration to do most heavy options.

I have a Remington 870 Wingmaster 12 Gauge, 26 inch ventilated rib barrel, and Rem Chokes, going to be on the way shortly. The Remington 870 Defender is back to the shop, to be used toward the Wingmaster.

Is this a better model for you to use?

It's a smoother trigger at pull through, and it lets off a little quicker. The longer barrel, and choke set up gives better accuracy, and higher velocities.

I suppose you'd also be set if you went bird hunting, or clay shooting, as well. You ever do that?

I factored that in also with the Wingmaster. I had a Wingmaster in the 80's, and it was a fixed modified choke barrel. If I do anymore clay shooting, all I have to do is change the choke. That only takes about three minutes, or less to go to the appropriate choke for clays. Clays and I got along well. I liked quail, and pheasant hunting when I was younger as well.

That would work, then. You know, when I worked in Kmart down there, I was in sporting goods (for the most part, anyway) and I sold hunting licenses. Sold some 12 gauge shells, too, but I don't think any guns. Maybe one. The location in Brandon sold shotguns and .22 rifles (I don't think they had anything bigger, although they did have some rifle cartridges like .243 Winchester and .308 in stock, and of course .22 LR,) but not the location in St. Petersburg. All they had were air guns, but we still did sell the licenses there. I guess it depended on the location where they'd actually sell guns, or not, or whatever. It doesn't matter now, since they are all gone now, I think. I know the St. Pete location closed years ago, but I don't know about Brandon. Sears bought them out Kmart went bankrupt (that actually happened when I worked there,) then of course, Sears when down the toilet, too. Who knows what's left now? Kind of sad, since that Kmart was there when I was a kid, and I shopped there with my grandparents. In fact, they didn't live that far from that location. I guess it's like everything else in life that happens eventually, not to be too depressing,

Do you remember, or were there any Zayres stores around there? They didn't sell guns, or ammo, but they were like Grand Way, K-Mart, WoolCo, etc..

Yeah, I remember Zayres. I used to go there when I was a kid with my parents. I think about 75% of my Christmas and birthday presents came from that place, at least where toys where concerned. They had a lot there, from what I remember, or it just seemed like that when you're a little kid.
