Yeah, I've heard about that.

The timing just felt right to go back to a .45ACP cary size, light weight .

Federal .45ACP 165gr. Hydra-Shock JHP. I have some Federal .45ACP 230gr. ball for some heavy work.
The 165gr. is the Premium Low Recoil .45ACP, a highly rated defense load.
Kimber uses the Federal .45ACP 230gr. ball for their ballistic's work ups. The Ultra Carry ll can use +P ammo, just not a steady diet of it. That's one draw back to a light weight aluminum frame. I'm not using any +P's, so I'm doing fine.

What do you think of the Hornady Critical Defense stuff?

I would have no issues with Hornady. I used some of their rifle ammo, as well as their handgun, and rifle reloading components. Some of my better reloads were with Hornady heads, and the specs from a Hornady Reloading Manual. I loaded .308 Win., and .223 Rem. for Remington 700 SPS bolt action rifles.

When did you do that? Do you still do reloading, or you don't bother.

I stopped reloading about 1997. I sold off my Dillon, Lyman presses, and other equipment at that time. I got tired of storing the extra powders, primers, heads, and brass. The different dies for everything was a bit much as well.

Was it difficult to do that? I imagine you'd have to be careful, and know what you're doing with that, since it could be dangerous to mess with.

Once you get all the components you need, then it's a bit tricky setting the different dies to expand the case mouth, seat the primers, drop the powder after you've set the amount of powder to drop, and then seat the head, with, or without a crimp. Most auto loading pistols use either a slight crimp, or no crimp. Revolvers us a crimp. You really have to do the functions in a progression, and watch what you're doing.

It sounds like quite the process to do that. I suppose it's not a bad skill to know though, is it?

It's probably not as bad as I make it out to do. There are some settings on the different components, If you have them set as you like them, you leave them the hell alone. Just like an amp head's settings. YOU NO TOUCHE!!!

Yeah, although an amplifier isn't as explosive. :P

The most dangerous of the components in modern day reloading, are the primers. the current day smokeless powders will burn. The black powders used in flintlock muskets, and early Colt style revolvers, etc., will explode. The smokeless powders changed everything in cartridge ammunition.

That's true. When you think about it, it's not really that old of technology, in the grand scheme of things, or as long as gunpowder and firearms have existed.
