$10,000., and $12,000. is a pretty hefty price tag alright.

Yeah, especially if you're in some bar band. :P Then again, you probably wouldn't be, if you could afford that.

Every once in awhile, the pride of ownership kicks in. You maybe can't afford it, and you wouldn't play it in a honky tonk, but it's yours. That's me with my last two basses, and I guess the Hartke amp. I know my what little studio days are gone, and the on stage stuff was over almost before it started.

Yeah, I imagine that can be a tricky thing, if you own a valuable instrument, and you are an active musician. It might sound and play really amazing, but do you risk taking it out on the road, or not?

I guess I would say if you can afford insurance on it, and maybe have a two, one for home, and one for the road. How many players have you come across that have Axes they possess, and possibly never play. The pride of ownership thing may come into play again.

You know, that makes me wonder about Jimmy Page's 1958 Les Paul. You know the main one he had in Led Zeppelin, although he also had a 1959 (I think the year,) as well, besides whatever else he used. I've seen him use other Les Pauls in recent years (2007 Reunion, etc.,) but I'll have to go back and see if he was still using them live then. That was a one off thing, and not a tour, though. I'm pretty sure he might have used it when I saw him in 1988, with his Outrider tour, but I'd have to research to confirm that. The reason I even mentioned that particular guitar, is imagine how much that guitar would be worth, if he were to auction it. '58 Les Pauls are valuable as it is. I'll bet it would hit a million dollars, if not more.

Those older LP's can bring a hefty price, then add on top of just the LP, who played it as well. Image

Yeah, I'll bet even his Danelectro would be worth a mint, since it was his, and he used it (at least live, not sure about studio) on "Kashmir" and "In My Time Of Dying," and those were basically like budget or student guitars back in the day, weren't they? I do have to say they are nice players, though. I've played on a few, including the Longhorn bass.

Jack Bruce used some Danelectro long horn basses while in Cream.

I know he used the Fender Bass VI on the song "Strange Brew".

I wouldn't mine having one, or maybe giving the Squier version a try again, since they worked the bugs out of that one. Unfortunately, the one we did have was screwed up, but that was when they first out, though. I don't know if you remember that. It was actually 5 years ago, now. I was pissed off, but I've gotten over that. Things happen, and life is too short to sweat the BS.

I remember you were hell bent on staying away from Fender basses. I can see where you were coming from too.

Yeah, I was, but it had to do with the customer service situation more than the actual instruments, which can be hit or miss, or have issues with any brand. Nothing is 100% perfect all of the time.

Yep. I've seen several 4003's that I wouldn't acquire, even if I had the money to do so. In fact, when I got my Jetglo, SA had a Midnight Blue, and a Walnut. The Midnight Blue didn't have a neck fit to the body I liked. It was a minor issue, but it just didn't look that great to me. The Walnut's frets didn't feel dressed as well as they should have been.
