Easier on the fingers, too. Although, I've actually gotten a bit used to the rounds, as far as that goes.

I like the round feel of the Nylons, and the smooth feel at the same time. My fingers do well with the D'addario Chrome Flats also. ECB82 Chromes Bass, Medium, 50-105, Long Scale

How long have you been playing the nylon strings? I think I've been playing flats consistently for at least 5 or 6 years. Maybe a little longer than that, but I don't remember. Before that, I used just whatever. I really didn't even have any string preference, and usually wound up with cheap rounds, usually D'Addario strings, since they were usually the cheapest ones. I didn't change them too often, either. I was kind of bad about that sort of thing.

I first used Nylons in 1970, for about three years. I think it was about 1999, or 2000 when I started using the ETB92 Nylons. I really don't remember exactly when.

You know, at least where the Rotosound nylons are concerned, they made those to try and replicate the sound of an upright bass on an electric.

The ETB92 Nylons can get an upright as well. They are probably known for their producing Up Right, and Flats sounds. D'Addario even states the Up Right, and Flats sounds by the ETB92 Nylons.

Come to think of it, I think D'Addario actually makes upright strings, besides all kinds of other instruments, as well. A lot of companies don't do that, or minimally, like banjos and ukuleles. They get into all of the string instruments from around the world, which is pretty cool. Someone has to make them. Speaking of upright basses, if you think electric bass strings can get pricey, try buying those. They're usually at least $100 for a set, or more. I guess you don't have to change them that much, but then again uprights aren't cheap, themselves. You'd be lucky to even find one for $700, usually used.

My daughter hasn't had time to play zip on her Cello lately. Sam Ash lists two sets of four strings that they sell for $73. and $125.

Yeah, they aren't cheap. Although, there's a couple of brands of electric bass strings that are about that expensive. Those Pyramid strings that are usually on Hofners are up there, and a couple of other brands that I've seen on a web site that specializes in selling bass strings. Actually, the ones I got today are probably the most that I've typically paid for bass strings, and these are $35. Even the Rotosounds are a few bucks cheaper, but I really wanted to try them, and order from AMS. It's not like I buy them all of the time, and I've spend more on a friggin' diner, so it's not like I'm going to stress out if I'm not totally cheaping out. :P

The ETB92 Nylons are pretty pricey too, but I can get them at a discount.

How often do you change those out?

Are they the same ones you've used on the different basses that you've gone through? I'd imagine the ends would get messed up from unraveling and tightening them back on again, though. I've had some flats get a little wonky from only doing that a couple of times.

They were from different basses of the same type. I just really took my time when I strung, and unstrung them.

Yeah, I suppose I might not have been as meticulous with mine. To be honest, changing strings isn't something I'd call a favorite pastime. I suppose I could join the 21st Century and actually get a string winder, instead of cranking that crap by hand. I do like to shop for strings, though. :P The one piece of modern tech I do have, is one of those clip on digital tuners. I got to say, I haven't touched my BOSS TU-12 since I've had it. It's really convenient. I don't leave it clipped on to any instruments, though. I'll still keep the BOSS in the gear bag, as a backup when I do shows or rehearsals. You never know when things can go wrong at the time you need them not to.

I got so used to changing out bass strings, that now it's almost something I like doing. Image
