Yeah, I did. My cousin was in the same year in high school with him, and I knew the guitar player he played with in the beginning.

I take it that you didn't get along with him too well, then. From what I've read about him, and the way he died, I can see why that could happen, but who am I to judge anyone. All I know, is he has exactly the same birthday as mine, but he was 20 years older, and he played with Joni Mitchell, among other things.

Just a local clash of a lot of differences many had with him. I'm not placing blame on anyone, we were all individuals in a crazy time.

Yeah, that can happen sometimes. Apparently, he liked to start fights, and I guess that was ultimately led to his death. He messed with the wrong person at the wrong time.

I didn't get it into it with him, I let things slide. He wasn't worth going to the Electric chair for. The best thing I did was avoid him.

Wow, that bad, huh? I've known a few like that in my time, myself.

Oh yeah, there’s Jaco, and many others that play a Jazz. That was just scratching the surface.

I remember that Steve Bailey bass. I thought it was a pretty cool instrument. 8) I liked the way they designed the neck on it, with the clover leaf type tuners, instead of the usual smaller ones, and the way it expanded out towards the body. It sort of reminded of those Mexican Mariachi basses, but a little longer. I actually picked one of those up once, in some little hole in the wall shop that had all kinds of odds and ends. It was a totally different animal to any bass I’ve ever had seen before.

I always said that if Fender made a 6 string 24 fret Jazz Bass I would have one. The Steve Bailey came out so I ordered one, I put a down payment on it then a couple of months later it was discontinued. I had a 9 month wait to get it and the shop owner said it was the only bass that he ever sold that went up in value after it left the shop. I'm pretty sure I got the last one Fender made.

That just makes me a little paranoid about leaving the house with it. I've been kinda shopping for a Warwick Steve Bailey 6 since after about 7 years of playing the Fender I'm in love with the neck profile.

I have to say I like the way his Fender version looks over his Warwick model, but I've played on Warwick 4 strings, a long time ago in a shop, and they played really nice. Fast, smooth necks on them.

Yeah, I joke that the only thing I'm racist about is guitars. I hate black guitars. Every speck of schmutz, every , smudge, every fingerprint, etc shows up on them and almost never go away. It drives me nuts. But like I said I'm so used to the neck profile on my Fender I will get over it.

I've read somewhere that black is the hardest finish to paint on a guitar, perhaps for those reasons. At least with something like a sunburst, that hides a lot of that.

I do have to say that it does look pretty good on that bass. 8)

That's why I went with the sunburst option. Plus sunburst looks so cool when it's beat up.
