Yeah, I generally try to stick with new gear, for the most part, unless it's something really unique that you can't find or get, otherwise.

I'll go with that!

The Rosewood Jazz is getting my respect, and more playing time. I can't wait to play it through the Super Bassman when is shows up. The GL should sound like HEAVY METAL THUNDER!!! Image

You know, I didn't think I'd like the Am. Pro. Jazz, as compared to the Am. Std.'s. But now I it feels the same to me playing it, as the Am. Std.'s did. I can't say that I can feel the difference between the two style frets. A lot of hoopla for nothing.

You'll have to play some Blue Cheer and throw in "I'm Your Captain/Closer To Home" by Grand Funk Railroad. For some reason, that song, especially the bass line, popped in my head when I read this. Come to think of it, I do believe Mel Schacher used a Jazz Bass during that time period, as well.

Yeah, probably just an excuse for a price hike, if anything.

I think you're right on the price hike thing.
I can think of four prominent Jazz players, Noel Redding, Dickie Peterson, Mel Schacher, and that guy,.............. John Paul Jones. At least at one time.

Yeah, even Paul McCartney used one for the "White Album," at least. 8)

Jack Bruce used a Jazz Vl on Strange Brew.

I remember seeing that. He had a psychedelic paint job put on it. I wonder what ever became of it, whether he kept it all of these years while he was alive? I tried to look it up, but so far, didn't really see any mention of that.

That was the bass that had something like a duck dangling from the head.

What about Jaco?

Like I said I currently own what I believe is the last Steve Bailey Jazz Bass. It seems to fit my style/approach as a 6 string bassist who plays traditionally in the Jamerson, Rainey, tradition with some more modern tricks.

Rev J

Oh yeah, there’s Jaco, and many others that play a Jazz. That was just scratching the surface.

I remember that Steve Bailey bass. I thought it was a pretty cool instrument. 8) I liked the way they designed the neck on it, with the clover leaf type tuners, instead of the usual smaller ones, and the way it expanded out towards the body. It sort of reminded of those Mexican Mariachi basses, but a little longer. I actually picked one of those up once, in some little hole in the wall shop that had all kinds of odds and ends. It was a totally different animal to any bass I’ve ever had seen before.

I try to not get Jaco mixed in with my conversations. He and I weren't on the same page so to speak in Fort Lauderdale back then. There were, and are a lot of players who use Jazzes.
