Hi everybody.
I hate to be "that guy" who's first post is a "help me identify this" one but I'm going nuts and I have to wait till tomorrow to find out more. So maybe thanks to the time difference between The Netherlands and the USA I can find out some more from you guys.

I am a guitar player (wait, don't shoot!) but I want to learn bass as well so step one is to buy a bass.
Just reserved this one online and I only have the three photo's.

Looks like a 70's model but I'm not sure about the bridge and the logo seems to be a bit different then the ones I find on Google.
Experts? Is it worth driving 180 miles (300Km) roundtrip to pick up? (They're asking 500 euro's for it.)

Like I wrote, I'll phone the pawn shop first thing tomorrow and ask for pictures off the back (headstock, neckplate etc.) but that's like 10 hours from now :x

If I go and check it out I'll make sure to open up the electronics and check for pot dates etc, but I hate to waste a couple hours driving to check out a partsbass or obvious fake.

Did you buy it ?

Original '70 may have " ashtray" cover on bridge. With no ashtray you must see two hole for the screw.
This bass don't have these holes

There is no bullet truss rod like all '70 Bass.

I don't know more, It look so new .....But IMO it is not a '70 bass

Just run the serial number through guitardater.org and see what pops up.

Sorry for the late response but I didn't realize that a topic had to be approved before it's posted. So that took a couple of days.
I did go and checked it out just because I was curious.

Turned out to be an old Japanese copy with a Fender decal.

So it probably was from the 70's or 80's and it was a decent quality. The neck was build very well but I didn't buy it in the end and got my money back.
The store legally can't sell fake items. They had a suspicion it could be a fake but someone put it online before they had the chance to have it checked out by someone.
I have had some luck with that chain before with guitars like a MIJ Squier for 60 bucks, a rare Shergold, Japanese Ibanez, couple of cheap Gibson's etc. Sometimes they don't know what they have :)
I'll just keep on looking, I'm sure I'll find a nice bass soon.
