Hi Everyone,

Was just looking up the serial on my used GL Jazz and can't seem to find it anywhere.
I've tried Fenders page and that fender identification site that gives you where and when it was made.

Here it is B007100. It does have Crafted In Japan on it.
Fender list's all Crafted In Japan as:
Crafted in Japan A + 6 digits 1997-1998
Crafted in Japan O + 5 digits 1997-2000
Crafted in Japan P + 5 digits 1999-2002
Crafted in Japan Q + 5 digits 2002-2004
Crafted in Japan R + 5 digits 2004-2005
But no B

Im pretty sure that 96 was the first year they started making these.

Any Ideas?

I ck'd it on http://www.guitardaterproject.org/fender.aspx and this is what it pulled, I tried it twice, once with CIJ, 2nd time with Japanese made: Guitar Info
Your guitar was made at the
Fuji-gen Plant (for Fender Japan), Japan
in the Year(s): 1985 - 1986

Hope this helps.

PS. Are u sure it's a Geddy?

Well now That strange because the Geddy Model wasn't out in the 80's.

Humm....mystery.

Here are some pics to verify what I have: (Sorry about the Image quality!)

Just maybe, you think someone added the BadAss II bridge and bought a Geddy Lee neck and mated it to your body? That doesn't explain the serial # on the neck still tho. Very weird indeed. Good luck finding an answer, let us know what you find.

After lookin around I found another GL that has a B(6digit) number as well:
This person says its a 2002 model:

So it looks as though the B's are also 2002 as well as P's and Q's.

I'm not sure why Fender omitted this serial from their website.
I noticed that some of the GL Jazzes have a blank nickel neck plate and some have the Limited Edition and Spaghetti F on the plate.

I'll keep looking.

Test, [/img]

Problem solved!

Thankfully, Fender tracked it down.
Its is a 2001 Geddy Lee Jazz. They just didn't list the serial on the website.

Case closed.

Hi, Test4echo.

I recently purchased a Geddy Lee Jazz bass as well, and had the same problem with dating it via the Fender site. Like you, mine has a serial number that begings with "B" also. So it looks like the answer is 2001.

I also noticed the newer GL basses have "painted" block neck inlays, but the "Limited Edition," which mine (and I think yours) is has real block inlays. Do you know if the Limited Edition basses all have this, and whether or not I am right that Fender produced some of the GL basses with real block inlays, but for some reason stopped?

Does this make the Limited Edition versions more valuable?

Any thoughts welcome,

Mike

Hi Tartan,

Yes actually I've noticed the same thing.
On newer GL basses the neck plate is blank. On older ones 2001-prior they have the Big spaghetti F and Limited edition stamped on them.
The blocks on my GL do not appear to be painted on but I could be wrong. Because of the lacquer I can't tell.
Would nice to find out.

I've also noticed that the construction quality of my GL is much superior to the ones they have hanging in the music store that are going for $899 Canadian.

Something obviously happened to the Quality between 2001-and present on GL basses.

test,

Hi, Test.

I took the neck off and the date is actually stamped on the body. Mine is Aug 2000. A little older than the seller indicatd. :-) But, the neck has real inlays, so I won't complain.

Thanks for your reply.
