Hi!
So I own a Fender Modern Player Jazz Bass and it's with me for2 years already. But I have some problems with the jack.
Whenever I plug in my cord to my bass, there will be a buzzing sound (as if it is grounded) and there is no sound coming from the amplifier, just the buzz. However, at some certain position or the way the cord is plugged, there is a "sweet spot" where I can get the sound but after a few movements, it will be gone again and the buzzing sound will be present again.

A friend advised that it is a "cut wire" from the controls so I opened it and examined (see photos below)
From my inspection, no wires were tripped or cut or shorted.
How do I remedy this problem?

If the problem's not here, then is it on the cord?

That's easy! Just replace the jack.

How much resistance is there on your fingers when you push the cable into the jack?
If it is pretty easy and the "click" when it bottoms in the jack is soft it may be an even easier fix than a jack replacement.
I have several times fixed an iffy jack just by bending the arm a little bit that has the v-bend on it that fits into the notch on the tip of the cable end.
Sometimes there just isn't enough pressure on the tip to force the side of the plug (sleeve) into firm contact with the sleeve on the jack.

Try this first. Free the jack from the mount and bend the arm in the direction shown below, which is in the direction of the hole. Be very gentle with the wires, all the wires. You don't want to put any strain on the wires or the solder connections. Then remount and reinstall and try the plug again.

If this doesn't cure your problems you'll of course want to investigate deeper.
If you've done it properly, there will be more resistance when you push the plug into the jack and the click when it bottoms will be more positive, firmer and maybe even louder.
Let us know how it goes.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

You know, that was what happened to my '78 Jazz Bass with the jackass that I traded it to. I guess he got overzealous during some gig he played and tossed it up through the ceiling at the bar he played in. He wasn't what I'd call a rocket scientist. :P

Hi, Try a different instrument cable FIRST. Always use a good quality cable as it makes a difference. Some of the imported cables are not so good as the plugs are off spec size wise. Only if a different cable does not fix it would I replace the jack. It is a 5 minute repair in most cases. Use a SWITCHCRAFT branded jack model number 11 Other brands are not going to last. The Switchcraft #11 jack is $5 or less on Amazon.
