I wonder, with the polyutherane finishes you find on the new American Standard series, if it is still possible to relic your bass just by playing.

Of course... Just break a sweat, literally...
The acidic properties in your sweat could take the paint off a car
(if the paint was exposed long enough)
Is it a little harder to do on the new finish compared to the old nitro finishes?
More than likely, Yes. The nitro isn't just thin... it's also a little more susceptible.

or ...OOPS ...expose it to some controlled humidity ...here comes the rust

Also wear a belt (preferably with a big 'ol Texan buckle) to get some nice belt-buckle rash.

Poly finish guitars are extremely hard to relic by playing them. The finish is just to tough to wear out. If you want to make the finish look older you can leave it out in the sun for a while and it should yellow a bit.
