Hey bassclef, you want to edit your post there? You're making it seem like that's my quote you got there. It's not. Rockbassist quoted it, not me.

I'm warning all who read this that I am intentionally stirring the pot, because I think there are some fundamental issues that are being ignored in the debate about the price vs quality, particularly when it comes to American made Fenders vs all others. As one wise man said, "you are entitled to your own opinion, but you are not entitled to your own truth".

A stringed instrument conducts sound in a way that involve all of its parts. Each component used in making a bass guitar has a resonance value, based on how it responds to vibrations. Some materials are extremely effective in conducting vibrations, while other less so. This being true, the sound that we hear is the sum total of how every component affects the vibration, which eventually reaches the pickups, where it is converted into an electrical signal.

If this simplistic explanation of what happens when you pluck a string is accurate, then all the components of a bass create a system that theoretically produces a unique sound for that type of bass. When you begin changing components, you also alter the sonic signature.

Many will say, you can't hear a difference between 2 instruments. This may be true from a subjective point of view, especially if a person carefully alters the Amp settings to emulate a certain sound, which almost all modern amps are capable of doing. This subjective perception does not negate the fact that 2 instruments, built with different components, will not generate the same sound waves. Change one component, and the sonic difference is negligible. Change all the components and will they both belong in the bass family, the sonic difference is dramatic. So why would someone still say they sound the same to me?

The answer to this question lies in an understanding of perception. We have the ability to change how we interact with the world around us by altering what we believe about the world around us. Illusionists depend on this misdirection. They tell us that they are going to make something disappear. Because we believe them, they create the illusion that they did make something disappear. It is only when someone shows us how the illusion worked, that we see the truth of the matter. This is an example of a deliberate manipulation of our perception.

To further illustrate this concept, compare an analog recording of a song with a digital recording of the same song. If you listen to the digital recording alone, you may say, that sounds just like..... Listen to the digital version after listening to the analog version and you immediately notice the differences.

Listen, buy whatever instrument you can afford and enjoy. If for you, your $200 bass sounds like a $10,000 custom, then more power to you. However, because you say that 1 instrument, made of inferior materials sounds as good as an instrument made from superior materials... well you are entitled to your own opinion, even if its not true.

What you are saying is true, to an extent, I've said this before, your high and mighty superior quality bass will sound like crap played through a junk amp, and a crap bass will sound better with a good amp. sound that comes out from your amp are all manipulation and amplified. You do some sound manipulating when you amplify your bass. So yeah, to an extent, some $300 bass can sound as good as a $1200 bass.

I do agree with quality on certain MIA is better. Everything else you said I do agree, superior quality and materials generally will make a better product, generally.
