The Geddy Lee Jazz is a hot bass , so why not build a five string version of it ? I am sure it will be a good seller ! What do you think ?

I'm not a big Rush of Geddy Lee, I know they're a great band, and he's a great bass player. Does he play a 5 string? Because if he doesn't, it defeats the purpose of a signature model.

Id definitely but it because I love Rush and I have Geddy's Jazz bass and I love it but Id also like it if the 5 tuners were like custom shop basses (4 on top one on bottom)

Agreed. I don't think he has ever played a 5er, though I could be wrong.

Its somewhat Naive to think in 40 years of Performing to say Geddy Lee hasnt had a five string but its also because his signature bass dates back to before the five string Jazz bass was released so you could be right.

I know what you're saying. What I was implying is that I don't believe he has exclusively played a 5 for a period of his career, not that he has ever played one.

In 20 years of playing I've had 5 & 6 strings in my collection, but those aren't the main bass I played with. I wasn't implying he couldn't play a 5 string, but why have a signature series of a bass he might pick up for 1 song every night? That's why it's kinda weird to have so many different color options on the Stu Hamm sig, and most of everyone else have 1 (or 2). Then you have Victor Bailey with 3 electric and 2 accoustic signature models.

I know that Geddy used a Five string Wal bass on the Hold Your Fire album . But his main bass is the 4 string jazz . I thought that since theres a Marcus signature five string why not a GL 5 . It never crossed my mind what PJB stated but he is right . Anyway a 5 string GL like bass would be great to have . But for that it has to be ordered from the Custom Shop .

Well Victor Bailey isnt really a 5 string player and they have a 5 string version of his signature bass,so why not have one for Geddy Lee

Here's my take on artist models.
1) why would someone want someone else's name on "their" bass?
2) when i see someone using a sig copy, it yells "cheesey" to me, no matter how good the player is.
3) it tells me you want to imitate if not "be" that artist, which is a whole nother level of "cheese".
4) it says you're so busy working on playing like your sig model's artist, you in turn don't have your own style.

I'm not trying to offend or critisize the guys that do it, just that i don't understand it.
Even as a teen, i never sought to emulate anyone; i liked McCartney, Squire, Stanley Clarke...so i took from them what i wanted and turned it into me. I didn't care who played the bass for a group or on a song...if i liked it, i learned it; who played it was of little importance.
Having the same bass they play so i could cop their sound, means i'm not working hard enough with mine.
YMMV

Not unless you have the same exact rig the artist have. Plus some people aren't into having their own sound. The sound you thought is yours, someone else somewhere has it. People tend to like a certain sound, copied from various bass sounds they've heard.

I had a Stu Hamm sig, loved it. Very nice playing bass. Would I have bought it if it wasn't a sig, probably. I liked the color and the sound I got from it. Plus, most people wouldn't know who Stu Hamm is unless their into bass or funk or I don't know...I would never be able to play like Stu, would it matter, no. Do I need to sound like him, not really. I'm into NYHC and metal, so it's not pertinent that I can play more than 3 notes (but I do), or play a variation of the riffs of the guitar, or know the scales I'm playing (I do know it tho :) )I sold it to move on to something else, which I kind of regret, but I moved on.

I want a Steve Harris sig, but probably never play it, he's the MAN as far as bass goes for me. So it will defeat my own principal, buy a bass to play it not to vacuum seal it in a display case. So, hence I'd never buy one.
