I probably said this a few times, but this Player is just like playing an Am. Std. True, it doesn't have the rolled edge fretboard, but the frets are so well dressed on it. The QC on this MIM Player Jazz is so great! It's made me a believer to deffinately check out the MIM basses, even if I did have the funds to acquire a MIA. The Gator TSA hardshell case protects it as well as a comparable hardshell Fender supplied case. So I'm $890. into the Player Jazz, and Gator case, as compared to $1,550. for an Am. Pro. The Buttercream finish isn't available in the Am. Pro. either. Booooo! I'm liking the Buttercream, as much as Olympic White these days too.
My Buttercream Jazz is my keeper Jazz, and the way I'm wowed with the HD75, that's my keeper amp as well. A WIN, WIN!!! Image

With those comparative prices, you could almost buy two of the Player Series basses for the price of the American Pro model. I agree about that Buttercream finish, too. There's something very appealing about that one, at least to me. They've really seemed to have upped their game with this one. 8)

I'm sorry I jumped in so much in length on the last post, but its not too often I acquire both a bass, and an amp I'm this up on at the same time. That photo of the Hartke turned out ok. ImageImage

Yeah, it looks pretty good. 8)

I'll bet it does. Have you played any other Player Series models to see if they play the same as that one? You know, maybe another Jazz with the Pao Ferro fretboard and a different finish, as an example, to see if there's much a difference there. I'm curious to see how consistent the quality control is, and all of that.

I had the Polar White Maple board Player Jazz early on. From what I remember of playing it, the Polar White one was almost, if not identical to the Buttercream Jazz. I have not recently played anything, other than my jazz.

Maybe you decide later swapping the parchment pickguard with a black one?

No, this is the Black Moto one. It's on there now. I do have a Black one though.

That's good to know that they were the same. You know, there's also a 3rd option, besides the Jazz and Precision bass in the Player Series, and that's the Jaguar model. https://shop.fender.com/en-US/electric- ... 03582.html You ever see those around? I know it seems we either go on about the other two, or maybe a Mustang bass every once in awhile, but have overlooked that one. From what I can tell, it has a Jazz neck on it, and there's a P & J pickup, as well.

You know, I've had GAS for the Precision, since I already have a Jazz Bass (albeit, it's a Squier model,) but maybe this might be something, as well. I do like the shape of it, and have liked the guitar versions for years. It's certainly less common than the other two, and you probably can get the tones from both of them with that, and it looks like the neck is Jazz sized, from the specs, so you wouldn't have to get used to that width like a Precision has.

The Jaguar does look cool. Nice if a long scale is preferred in the PJ configuration over a Mustang PJ. Too bad its only offered in three finishes though. Everything else about the Jaguar is right there.

That's true, it doesn't have as many of the finish options, but it does have that Capri Orange finish, which is pretty cool, and they do have ones with maple fretboards in the Silver and Tidepool finishes, which are another color I like. I guess they didn't expand on that model, because it's probably not as common as a Precision or a Jazz. I suspect if it were, they'd probably offer the same options.

What can you tell me about an Ibanez TMB100M? Weight, I'm having an issue with the Player Jazz starting to give this old man trouble. I know it's a long scale active, with a 9.44" radius.

It's funny that you should mention that Ibanez TMB100M, since I was watching a demo video about it, and the other models without the maple fretboards yesterday. I've never played on one, just my short scale version, which I do like the way it plays and feels. They sound pretty good in the demos I've watched, but they also have active EQ's on them, so there is a battery for them, like you said, but that's like 98% of Ibanez basses, anyhow. The necks are a little flatter feeling than Fender ones are, at least me comparing my short scale to the Squier, which I'm sure has the same dimensions as the Fender model.

You're having an issue with the Jazz now?

The weight of this one has been kicking me pretty hard. I don't play well sitting, so standing is somewhat the name of the game. I decided to stick it out with the Jazz. It plays too damn good, and I like playing it as well. There's days when about everything aches on me. So I'll take two Motrins if the back starts to kickup, if I need to when I play.

Yeah, Fenders can be on the beefy side, with the weight, although that Peavey Zodiac is heavier than the Squier Jazz we have. I'm not sure what the Ibanez weighs, although my short scale Talman is relatively light, but it has a smaller neck.

I'm not sure how your Talman is, but the ones listed are Poplar bodies in place of Alder, and I think ash. Somewhere along the way Poplar replaced the other two body materials. The Talman also has a bit of a more curve to the radius. Fender is 9.5", and the Talman is 9.4". So slight it's probably not even felt when playing. I don't think I'd notice the difference.

It's better for me to keep the Jazz, and see what I can do to deal with the weight it, at least for now. In the meantime, I'm going to check out some alternatives if I can't work with the Jazz.
