I think they were Gibson Nylons. That's going back 50 years. Those were the real tapewounds, with black tape wrapping the foam on the strings.

I guess the whole point of those, at least according to Rotosound, was it was supposed to imitate the sound of an upright bass, with the electric bass.

Absolutely right. I'm looking forward to the Viola arriving tomorrow. Thursday that is.

Sounds good. 8) I'm curious to see what you think about it.

No problem on that. I just did a FedEx tracking on the bass, and the case. It's showing both items are on a FedEx truck, and out for delivery. They're going to a local FedEx ship, and print shop.

It's here. It plays, and sounds fantastic. The medium scale Nylons are a perfect fit, as I thought they would be. I didn't have to do any resetting of the amp settings. These Humbuckings put out like big time also.
QC is the same high quality as the EB-3 is. The case showed up also. This is a better fit in it than Gibson SG Std.'s have. At least the ones I've had.

It's like playing the original "Electric Lady". This is I guess as close as I'll ever come to my "Electric Lady". So,...... there is an "Electric Lady".
The Nylons play great on it as well.

That's pretty cool. 8) They're also relatively loud acoustically, so you can even play it unplugged and hear yourself really good, if you're like sitting on the couch watching TV, or whatever. That's what I often do with my violin bass, but it does sound a lot better through an amp. I imagine yours does even more so, since you have a lot better pickups and all of that. That's good to know that the nylons play great on it. Maybe I wouldn't have to worry about someday trying some on my violin bass? I imagine you'd get one hell of an upright bass tone with the combination of the two. Probably more so if it were fretless, which Epiphone doesn't make.

It does have a punch to it. I do like having one hollow, to semi hollow bass.

I don't remember if you said anything, but did you get a case or a gig bag with the Viola? I'm sure they probably don't come with one, do they?

It doesn't come with anything, other than an owner's manual, and an adjustment wrench. I had a bit of cash left over from the USA GL Jazz to cover an Epi Viola case. Ironically it really was the last case Sweetwater had in stock. The Viola fits in it's case better than any Gibson EB / SG bass I've had in a case.

So far these Epi's are turning out to be some fine basses, for a more than reasonable price tag. They play well through the Rumble / Ampeg too.

That's good that it works well with everything, especially at that price point. Sometimes, you get lucky and you don't have to spend a lot to get something decent to play with. 8) I never got a case for mine, but I have a case that was meant for a Jazzmaster guitar, than happened to fit it, that the guitarist we've played with let me use for it. I don't have a case for the Ibanez Talman, either. Maybe, I'll just either use that one, if it will fit (I never tried it out,) or just put it in my full size case that I've had all kinds of basses in, like the Schecter, and Precision, to name a few. Sure, it will be over sized, but it should work. Damned cases almost, or in some cases, cost more than the bass itself.

I think I told you at one time, if there wasn't a case for a bass, or it was too expensive, we used to get as close to fitting as possible, and then use whatever size towels to fit into the case. It did work.
