Yeah, they don't seem to be the strongest screws that hold up to that.

I guess it's kinda' tough to make a small wood screw of that small size, too have threads too much larger than they are on those screws. If they did have a larger thread, and stripped out, the stripped out hole in the wood would be greater, and more of a hassle to fill in. I try to use the same screw that came out of the same screw hole. I know they're all suppose to be the same cast screw, but I've always done that even with machine screws also.

The main part that worries me is the slots where the screwdriver goes into, which can get really messed up, especially if you use the wrong size screwdriver. It just seems like it's very soft material. This reminds me, I have to take the truss rod cover off of the Ibanez CT series bass, because I need to tweak it's truss rod. The last time I used that bass, the next day it developed a nasty fret buzz on the 1st fret area. It wasn't like that when I used it, so who knows what happened with that neck? Probably something to do with the climate around here, since it was cold and dry at the time. I'll just have to be careful with it, especially since it's my girlfriend's bass.

Those small screws aren't the most expensive parts on the bass, that's for sure.

True, but you don't want to get one messed up while on your bass, that's for sure.

True, one reason I try not to over use them too many times.

I like this Buttercream a lot better than the Butterscotch of the Sterling. The Butterscotch is a bit darker than the Buttercream of the Fender.Image

I have to say, that's probably my favorite finish with that series, although the blue one is pretty cool, too. Especially, paired with the maple fretboard, as well. 8) You know. that looks close to the finish of my Ibanez Talman, which is labeled as Ivory. Although, depending how the lighting conditions between your pics and other factors dealing with computer monitors and all of that, your's might be slightly darker, or more yellow tint to it. Then again that seems to be the case with pics of both basses on various pages, so that's probably the case. Still, pretty damned close, though.

There used to be a Fender Antique White, I think it was, that was somewhat more white than this Buttercream, but almost had a yellowish tint to it. I think you're referring to the Tidepool Blue. Yes, that does look rather smart with the Maple fretboard.

I think I remember that finish you're talking about. The funny thing about the blue finish, is I've never actually owned, or even really played a bass with any sort of blue finish at all, that I remember. It's kind of a rare finish for me, even though it technically might be common. I guess it just worked out that way, but it also took me almost 30 years to even play a hollow body bass, much less be able to own one, so things happen like that. It would be kind of cool to have one in some sort of blue, or even play on one, to see if I like that. Still, that Buttercream seems to be really getting my attention, for some reason.

I'm liking the Buttercream a lot. I better, I bought the Jazz in that finish. DUGHH!

Over the 51 years of playing bass, I never played a 5 string bass. That goes along with your 30 years about playing a hollowbody bass. It just works out that way.

The Alnico V pups are a damn super setup for this bass. They put out superbly, and the HyDrive 12" is awesome.

By the way, what other models did they have there with the Player Series, bass wise? Did they have any P Basses, or that Tidepool Blue?

Speaking of 5 string basses, did you ever come across that Fender Bass V, that was out in the 60's, that had that short scale neck, and I think had a high C string on it? This one here: Image I do believe John Paul Jones had and used one, but I guess it was pretty rare.

I'll bet it does sound good through that 15" speaker. I used to run a Jazz through 15"s, but it wasn't one of those, just some Peavey stuff. Still, I think Jazz Basses do pair well with that. They've really seemed to have upped their game with the new series, then. That is always a good thing. It's got me interested, but my broke $@! probably will have to stick to the Squiers, unless things pick up. The main thing is definitely that maple fretboard. If I do ever get one, it's definitely going to have that, I think.

The best thing to do is go into the Player Series in the Fender products. They do have a Precision in Tidepool Blue, with I think a Maple Fretboard. The Jazz of course, and a Jaguar. The choices of body finishes, and Fretboard woods are limited, just like the previous Standard Series was. Example; my Buttercream Jazz is only available with a Maple Fretboard. "They played right into my hand", with this one.

Like I stated in another post, the Alnico V pups on this Jazz is what I always liked on all of my Am. Std. Jazzes I had in the past. The Buttercream has turned out to be a great finish. For having a financial disaster with my basses, and amps, I'm actually as the boys in Cream sang, "I'm Sitting On Top Of The world"! Here again, I'm redundant on this, but the Hartke HD150 has paired up so well with the Player Jazz.

The sale on the HD150, brought it down to $319. plus tax, from $379. plus tax. And I hate to admit it, I do love the 15" HyDrive over a 12".
I found out what was rattling so loud when I played in the room. The heavier stand I had the Hartke on. I changed a couple of stands around in the room, and that was the fix for that. Everything's good.

They certain do have a few options with that series, even an orange finish, but that one isn't with a maple board. That Jaguar Bass also looks interesting, which I almost got the Squier version of, but the Ibanez wound up being cheaper. I'd probably would wind up with another Squier, if anything, most likely, because of financial reasons, unless things massively improve. Those are OK, too. They do have some new ones out that look good, as well. Still, if I could get a Fender, it would most likely be that P Bass, with a maple board, probably in the Buttercream finish. That bass has been speaking to me. :P

That's a pretty good deal you got on that Hartke, that's for sure. 8) You know if you were rattling something, you are putting out some good low end, but that's good you got that squared away, since that can get annoying.

The Buttercream does have a loud voice. I heard the Jazz do it to me the first time I saw it, and it was the same one that I have now.
The Precision Maple in either Buttercream or Tidepool Blue is an excellent choice for both.
