I do have to say I am curious about trying those on the Douglas bass. I'm planning on getting the Rotosound Tru Bass 88's, since I do like what I've heard with those being used, and I'm planning on going back to that brand, not that I totally went away from it. I'll probably do the Swing Bass 66 rounds on the Ibanez first, then go down that road, if possible. I've noticed it's not so easy to find Rotosound strings these days, since a lot of places quit carrying them that I used to buy from, especially the ones that aren't long scale. They don't even have their own store anymore, to where you could buy them directly. It cost a little more, because of their shipping, but I thought it would have been worth it for that convenience, but it's gone now.

Your Douglas would play fine with Flats, or Nylons. I've always heard that Rotosounds are pretty abrasive on frets. More so than most other types of strings.

You know, I think I've heard that many years ago, with the rounds, at least, but I'm not really sure. The flats don't seem to be an issue, though.

That sounds right to me also from what I remember from back when, the rounds were the ones that would do a serious number on both frets, and a fretboard. Supposedly, they were killers to a fretless board.

Flats, or Nylons, and I'm ok with either. I had some good playing with D'Addario Flats, before changing out to their Nylons. The Epi plays well with Nylons, as I think most Hollowbody basses do. The Epi comes with strings gauged at .45, .65, .85, and .105. So the E string is only slightly larger, being a .50 size. It's a good fit into, and through the most standard cut nuts. I would guess your Douglas has about the same size cuts in the nut as well. They two do appear to be very similar. Maybe manufactured by the same company in China, for all we know. Epiphone instruments are supposedly inspected, and setup here in the US. They key word, supposedly. This one if it was, did ok. I don't hear you mention any issues with the Douglas.

No, the only thing I had problems with was I had to file down fret ends, because of the climate shrinking the rosewood board, and I had to tweak the truss rod a few times, here and there, because of fret buzzing on the 1st frets, which I suspect was because of the climate changes, as well. I mean it was annoying, but nothing catastrophic. The pickups could be a little hotter, too. Still, for a $100 bass, you can't expect it to be top of the line. I've certainly gotten my money's worth out of it, and it's still going. I was playing on it earlier tonight.

I acquired the Mustang PJ back. It was still at the GC, in the same condition when I dropped it off to them. I played the two side by side, and the Mustang played, felt, and sounded better. The Epi had three dead spots in the neck that I thought I could live with, then I thought, if I'm only playing one bass now, it really should be more agreeable to me. So Fender came back home, and the Epi stayed at the store.

Sounds good. 8) It was fortunate that you were able to get that back, since it seemed to be a good player for you in the past.

Yes Paul, I'm hoping that this will be the last go around with this Mustang. There has to be something there with it. I bought in the first place, and liked, so I should have hung on to it. Amazingly, it still looks like it did when I took it out of the carton for the first time. Not a nick, or scratch on it. I guess I'm the only one that really likes this one.

I suppose not a lot of people around there were interesting in having short scales. Either that, or it's just lucky.

Maybe a little, or a lot of both I suppose. This happened at just the right time for once, on the Markbass, and the Mustang.

It still surprises me though, that so many of the items that I was able to reacquire weren't really paid attention too in the stores.

Yeah, you've been really lucky with that. 8) I've never seen anything I've ever got rid of again, anywhere. Do you think they get a lot of bass related sales going on there?

It's hard to tell overall. Some basses move better than others.

That's true. I suspect your Precision and Jazz basses would probably do that, since a lot of people are more familiar with those. Personally, as much as I love those, I do like the oddball basses even better, since they are less common, and it kind of gives you your own thing going on.
