There may be another Epi Viola in my future, to play with the Markbass Mini CMD 121P Combo.

Did you find another model that didn't have that neck issue?

My friend found it, and checked it out. He gave me the green light on this Epi Violin. He told me it's pristine. So if it's still avalible tomorrow, I'll acquire it to go with the Markbass.

Sounds good. 8) It looks like you'll be back in action again, with the full set up.

I got both Markbass, and Epi home, and played Like I was never going to stop. I enjoyed playing today, for more than I have for a long time. I almost think one bass, and one amps suits me well. It's good thing I kept the Epi Viola case, and has an extra set of ETB92M Nylons too.

I think that's a really great combo of gear to begin with. You have a lot of versatility and portability between the two. The cool thing about those basses is you can practice with them without having to plug in and still hear yourself a little better than if you just had a regular bass. The the size weight isn't too shabby with everything, either. That's always a bonus if you're someone who gigs a lot, and needs to move gear all of the time, or you don't have a lot of space for huge pieces of equipment.

The Epi does put out acoustically better than the Hofner. The Epi, and the Markbass do sound fine together.

I think the reason the Epiphone does that is because it's a bigger body. It looks about the same size as my Douglas version. Other than the different headstock, they look identical, except your's has better electronics in it, I'm sure. That's good that the amp also plays well with that bass, too. That's one thing I've noticed with some of the gear I've gone through, not all of it will do that together.

Isn't that somewhat of a PITA? Getting basses, and amps together that matchup. And then it's almost like it gets down to the individual bass, and amp, not just brand to brand type of matching them up. The Epi Viola has a 12" radius fretboard that I prefer. I've noticed that when I play the Epi, it feels like either a short, or a long scale. If that makes any sense.
The little bit of difference in price between the Hofner Ignition Violin, and the Epi Viola, I have my mind set on staying with an Epi, as per our last discussion about the two. I believe I'm ok playing one bass, one amp, like I stated out 50 years ago.

That's actually a good balance, if you don't really tell the difference between the two, I think. There are advantages and disadvantages between the two sizes, but that pretty much goes with anything you have. I remember us discussing the the two basses, that and the Ignition, but you know, that issue with the previous Viola could have just as well happened with the Ignition, as well. That's always a risk, especially since you're dealing with that price range.

There's nothing wrong with having one bass and an amp. I've done that for years, and most of the time, that's what I still stick with. I'm probably half on the Douglas violin bass, and the other half with the Ibanez Talman. Occasionally, I'll pick up the other ones, but I hardly put any serious time on them, like with those. I suppose it doesn't mean I won't down the road, though. Besides, they also need some work done on them.

I'm lucky I was able to reacquire the Markbass to go with the Epi. This in all probability is the final set for me. I'm not complaining. It's just the way it is. It was a good move for me to use the AC Jazz for the bass, and amp. The AC Jazz wasn't going to do much by itself. It looked nice, but that didn't make it for realistic playing. I feel like "I'm sitting on top of the world".

That's the thing with it. At least with the Epiphone, you can even play it unplugged and still hear it rather well, at least on it's own.

Your Douglas is probably about as loud as the Epi for unplugged playing. A lot more audible harmonics to say the least.

Yeah, even more so when it had rounds on it, or maybe it just had more of a twang to it. That also sounded closer to what an acoustic bass sounds like, probably because the strings on a acoustic bass are usually rounds, even though they are bronze, or whatever material they make them with. I wonder how well those acoustic bass strings would even work or sound on the violin bass?

I don't know, but I'm more in favor of staying with Nylons, or Flats on the Epi. Personal preference, and all that stuff.
