I was just curious since under all of my fuzoid, hip hop inspired madness I'm an old school ABB, Greatful Dead, Jam Band guy.

Have either of you thought about getting a Jazz Bass and doing a Berry Oakley "Tractor" mod (Move the neck pickup back by the bridge and put a Guild Starfire/Gibson humbucker in the neck position)?

Mel Schacher, the bassist for Grand Funk Railroad had a Jazz like that back in the day.

There were a few of them around, at that time.

Fender did put out a Jazz with humbuckers a couple of years ago with that "Modern Player" series. Maybe there's some floating around used somewhere for sale.

I just realized that keeping the Jazz Bass bridge pickup and putting a humbucker in the neck position is almost like putting a Jazz Bass bridge pickup on a P Bass.

Yeah, I suppose it would be, although not as common, I guess.

I knew a dude who bought from what I remember was a Lawsuit Ibanez P Bass in pieces that was routed for the Billy Sheehan mod (P Bass with Gibson Humbucker in the neck position and P pickup in regular position.

From what I understand, Billy Sheehan had it wired with an extra jack for stereo, to run into two amplifiers, as well. I guess one pickup went into one amp, and the second one into the other.

Yeah it does. Although they had a BB model with the same pickup configuration and a single output. When the guy asked me I told him he should do the 2 jack thing.

I don't know. I haven't seen him in years. I was interning in a recording studio and the program got cut I never saw him after that. He was going to have it as a keep around the studio recording bass.

I got to thinking, what does it matter If I have two short scale Violin / Viola basses. I've had three Jazzes at one time in the past. I'm actually getting to like the idea of the Viola being a bit of a different sound, and playing than the Violin.

That's true. That would also be interesting to see what the tonal differences are between the two, as well.
