Have you played around much with the MIDI or synth bass stuff? I know Roland has had a few things related to that over the years.

Not yet. As far as MIDI and sequencing goes I know Ableton has an audio to MIDI function that doesn't need special equipment. I haven't had the time to explore that yet. I think having a Roland pickup/converter might be a little more streamlined. Since I already have probably the last Steve Bailey Jazz Bass made I'm reluctant to even stick an external pickup on it with double sided tape.

I see what you mean. It probably wouldn't be a good idea to try and modify it too much, especially if they don't make them anymore.

Well, usually when you say that there is something in the future, you do wind up with it, so I suspect I'll be seeing that pretty soon. :P You know, Rhode Island did or is going to pass some law to where they charge sales tax on internet purchases now, so that's a moot point for me about that sort of thing. The last time I ordered from AMS, they charged me RI sales tax, I know that much.

I have the funds to do the Hofner HCT-500/1 Contemporary Violin Bass - Sunburst, now I just have to wait for Sweetwater to get more into stock. As far as I know, Indiana is still ok for no sales tax for out of state sales.

A guesstimate, would probably be a couple of weeks to a month. There are some Dent And Scratch from Hofner direct to Sweetwater, that are supposedly almost pristine. The rep I spoke to, said he had looked a a couple of the DNS Hofners, and saw nothing wrong with them.

Sometimes, you can get a really good deal with those. I've gotten a lot of stuff from AMS like that.

I have this 500/1 Contemporary Violin Hofner on order. It should be ok.

I'll see what happens when they show up at Sweetwater. It's part the Dent N Scratch batch from Honer.

That is about the pricing on the Contemporary 500/1's.

Have you played on those before, or you just played the German ones?
