I'm actually thinking about trying out the Rotosound Tru Bass 88's, since I'm thinking about just sticking with, or going back to Rotosounds. I only tried the Dunlops on my Ibanez, and the rest still have Rotosounds on them, so technically I didn't really change brands that much. I just have to figure out where I'm going to get them from, when or if I do, or any Rotosounds for that matter. The two places I used to get them don't sell them anymore, so I'll have to look elsewhere. Guitar Center and affiliates like Musician's Friend carries them, if I have to deal with them.

Oh, I just found this video. It's someone comparing the differences between Rotosound and D'Addario nylons.

So I guess at least someone did a video with those.

What's the difference between the Tru Bass set and the Steve Harris strings?

Tru Bass are those nylon tape wound strings and the Steve Harris ones are just regular flats to his specifications, as far as I know.

Ah ha! From what I remember the Steve Harris strings were repackaged "Jazz Bass" sets. I think that they were going to discontinue them and just rebranded them.

All I know is they are heavy gauge: .50 .75 .95 .110, which is the same as their heavy gauge set of their RS77LE set. I use the lightest ones they have, since I prefer the feel of those.

At one point I used the Rotosound Funk Master set which are 30-50-70-90 on my 4 string. I'm pretty sure that they were Mark King's go to string I know Geddy Lee used them for a while too (Red Wal Period).

Yeah, they were developed in conjunction with Mark King, according to their site: http://www.rotosound.com/funkmaster/

I just looked them up after I posted that. The funny thing is they are only slightly heavier than the high 4 strings on my sixer.

I've seen some odd ratings from one company to another, what's considered light, medium, and heavy.

It really depends on the company. I used Fodera Ultra-Lights which are these gauges:

.028 .040 .055 .075 .095 .120

I'm now using the Anthony Jackson set:

.28 .45 .65 .85 .105 .125

Some of those are quite a jump in size.

Yeah, usually .30 is a C string, I've noticed.

I played the AC Jazz today, a very quiet session with out an amp. It was better than nothing though.

You know, I have an idea about that, if you don't have to get rid of the AC Jazz altogether. You could sell it or trade it in and with the cost of it, you could get a cheaper bass and an amp to go through, so at least you can play and hear yourself, even if it's used or heavily discounted, like a scratch and dent kind of deal. I know you might not like it as much, but at least it's something to play with until things can pick up, and you can go back to the stuff you really like.

I thought about that, but I think if I am able to have a bass around, I already have this one. It's up there with the USA Getty Lee Jazz for a comfortable bass that I play well. So if and when I possibly get a small combo, it will at least have a 10" in it. Maybe one of the three, An Ampeg, Hartke, or Rumble. Other than that, I don't know.
