I think so too Paul. I'm very at ease playing a Fretless. Wed. should be the delivery day. The USA GL Jazzes that came in today are over nine pounds. All four of them had the E string pretty far off of the position for the poles in the pup. One thing I don't like about that style bridge, and it's saddles. There was one that looked a bit nicer than the others, but the Fretless should be good with the Standard. Like I said, this Standard is a really decent Fretted bass. It almost plays like a Fretless. The neck, and board feel, and play quick on it.

So you weren't happy with the Geddy Lee basses and the fretless had a better set up?

The Fretless looks a lot better. A bit lighter too.
The standard bridge on the Am. Pro. Series has 3-4 grooves on the saddles. The USA GL has a fixed groove on each saddle. The position of the E string was no where near aligned up with the pup's poles for the E string.

I do like having the Jazz as a backup to the Fretless Jazz. And at least to me, it makes more sense to have a lesser priced Jazz siting more, and a bit less played, than higher priced Jazzes. Like the USA Geddy Lee Jazz, or the Adam Clayton Jazz. And besides, I always liked Arctic White / Maple, with a White, or a Parchment PG.

It's probably a good idea to have a fretted bass with a fretless, since either doesn't sound like the other. Even Jack Bruce had both, despite the fact he had a signature fretless Warwick, which by the way, I've played on and it was pretty friggin' cool. 8) Not cheap, though. It cost $3800 and that was back in 1994. I'm surprised they even let me touch it, but then again I'm very careful with gear, especially if it's not my own.

That's Damn Cool you were able to play the Fretless Warwick. I Betcha' that was one real smooth Fretless.
I like having the Fretted also.
You're like I am with someone else's gear. It gave some decent Head Roadie spots. The players I moved gear for, knew I treated their gear like it was my gear. And my crew knew it, and did it too.

I forgot to mention, it had LED fret markers on the side of the neck. I didn't realize it at first, and did notice the fret markers looked sort of strange, not white like typical ones. Then I found the switch to turn them on and they lit up like a Christmas tree. I thought that was pretty cool. They also had me plug into an SWR Super Redhead combo amp, which wasn't cheap, either. I suppose that made the most sense, playing something that expensive. You probably wouldn't get the most out of it playing through some Crate amp, or whatever the cheap brand that was around at the time. We certainly didn't have the selection for bass amps like we do these days.

That's the thing about gear. Some things are built pretty tough, like Boss pedals, but why try to beat the crap out of stuff when it really doesn't take a lot of effort to take some care with it. Sometimes, accidents do happen, that can't always be helped, but a lot of abuse can be avoided, I think. Some people just don't give a crap, I suppose.

Either they don't give a crap, or they weren't taught by their parents to respect things that don't belong to them. It's somewhat like some parents think the teachers in the schools are responsible for the bringing up of their kids. That's crap, I think anyway.

The LED makers sound cool. I often wondered why Tritium dots weren't used for fret markers, like they are used for handgun, or some rifle sights. They omit there own power for lighting. No other power source needed, and no recharging needed either.

You know, that would be a great idea for the markers. A couple of years ago, I was going to try to find some of those glow in the dark stickers, and try to make fret markers to put on the side of the neck on my Schecter to help me see in poor lighting conditions, but if they had something like that, it wouldn't have been necessary. I couldn't find any of those stickers at the time, so I forgot about the whole thing.

Tritium does lose it power over time. So they would have to be replaced.

That would probably be a pain in the arse to do with fret markers, as well as an expense, then.

Tritium is 3H. 3Hydrogen. A radioactive isotope of Hydrogen. Anything after that, is Greek to me.
