Yeah, I know what you mean. I would have held on a good jag of gear I got rid of, that's for sure. I still get those AMS catalogs, but that's also my primary source for buying gear. I've gotten a lot of good deals through them, and they've always given me good service.

Good sounds from this setup.

I'll bet. 8) Speaking of Jazz Bass, I was looking on Reverb.com for Ibanez basses, and I found this one, which is totally passive, and has Jazz pickups on it. I can't find any info on it, and that makes me believe they only typically have these for European, and I think Canadian markets: https://reverb.com/item/20800233-ibanez ... -soundgear

There's also another one, from another Canadian seller: https://reverb.com/item/22524990-ibanez-gsr320-2018

I have to say, I really like the feel of the Ibanez necks, so I do find this rather interesting, especially with the fact it has passive Jazz pickups in it, which could do a good Jazz Bass sound, but the feel of an Ibanez bass. I wonder why these were never made for the US market? They really don't have passive basses here, other than the one I have, maybe another model, but I'm not sure. I don't mind active basses, though.

Either the blue or the red look really good. I kinda' like the blue over the red. They didn't mention the scale, that i saw anyway. If you like the Ibanez necks, the price on them is WOW! With the Jazz pups the sounds should be right on as well. Are you going for one? It does read that they ship to U.S., and everything is shown in USD, as is with no extra charges.

Yeah I grew up n a small town in Maine. The next town over was 30 minutes away between the 3 music stores there was a great selection of used Peavey amps for years. So I would get AMS, Musicians Friend etc catalogs and dream.

Yeah, I wonder how many bassists over the age of 40 have had at least one Peavey Mark IV head as part of their rig? It was cheap, loud, and works, which isn't a bad thing, especially if you were broke.

Some of that may have been where you were located. Some gear went over big in some areas, and not so well in others.

I never had a Peavey amp. It's funny though no matter where I go in the US I can always find one pawn shop with a Roland Jazz Chorus amp.

But Markbass seems to have done the almost impossible a light, affordable, loud and good sounding amp.

Me too. It's funny because I think you and I have very drastic differences in tonal preference.

You seem to be a classic rock passive bass with flats kind of guy where I'm a modern zing, extended range, round wound active bass with effects kind of guy.

It shows the versatility of their range.

Absolutely correct. A good sounding amp, is still a good sounding amp, no matter what a player's sound is. The Markbass is a decent one.

True. The only problem I have with Markbass is dealing with Guitar Center and Musicians Friend.

At least it's not like what happened with Dean guitars where they had a solid reputation and were quality instruments until they signed a contract to be sold exclusively at Sears. Their quality and reputation pretty much got destroyed. Dimebag Darryl helped to bring it back a little but even his guitar was from the Sears era and the signature model is a warts and all reproduction.

The two GC's I have no issues with, are 25 miles away from me. One to the north, one to the south. The two closer GC's aren't that great. I did go to the 25 mile store south of me to get the Mini CMD 121P new in a carton. Also, the two 25 mile stores are the bigger GC's. They carry a better stock too.

Mot of my issues with them are political. I've only been to one of the two nearest me and it really seems to have gone to crap over the last 10 years or so.

I went back to the GC way south of me to acquire the NY121 cab. That's ok, because the sales tax is less in Broward County where that store is located. Image
