The Rosewood on this AC Jazz is very similar to the same type of Rosewood Gibson was using on the SG Std.'s a few years ago. On the dark side. Image

Do you know if Gibson is still using the rosewood boards or not? I know because of those regulations, a lot of that is gone now, and being replaced with other wood sources.

I really don't know what the hell Gibson is doing for fretboard wood these days.

Yes it does. It may be a bit of a less exotic Rosewood, but it's Rosewood on an Epi Bass. The Epi Series is getting to be a favorite of mine, depending on the bass. Those damn Jack Cassidy's are pretty fine as well. I still like the Viola over those, but they sure are nice.

I just remembered something from my past, speaking of Epiphone, which I did play on in a shop. It was an Epiphone Accu Bass, which I guess was their version of a Precision Bass. I had completely forgotten about it, until I just read your last post. I now remember it was a nice player and sounded pretty good, at least at the time. I'm surprised I even forgot about it, but I guess, so many years, and so many basses that come and go, and I didn't own it, and it wasn't around in the shop for very long. Anyway, yeah I agree, from my limited experience, I agree that Epiphone seems to have a good game going on. 8)

I found a pic of that Accu Bass which looked like it. They had a few different finishes, and maple or rosewood boards (I'm not 100% sure, but I do think that particular one might have been maple, like the one in the pic,) and they had two different head stocks. The earlier ones had the banana shaped ones, like in the pic, and the one I played on, and the later ones (they were making them up to at least 10 years ago, I think,) had that one Epiphone head stock that has that kind of wavy bottom line to it.

Outstanding looking Epi there. Jeezzz, the Epi's look so much better than the Gibsons.

The funny thing about that Epiphone Accu Bass is I have a feeling it was made in the same factory as one of these Silvertone basses. The body looks the same, even with that thumb rest. Maybe Samick made those back in the day, before Epiphone got it's own factory going in China.

I remember Juan Aldarete from The Mars Volta playing one of those Epiphone P Bass copies back when he was John Alderete in Racer X.
