I have a 2 year old 64 reissue jazz bass in Daphne Blue.
The finish has started cracking already, is this normal after this amount of time? The bass has never been in any extreme tempreture changes. I called the store where I bought it who said that this was normal and it was designed to age quickly, is this correct ? I can't find any mention of it on the Fender website.

Lacquer in fact is not as durable as modern urethane or polyester finishes, hence its appeal for re-issue or replica instruments. But it does seem as though yours is aging abnormally quickly. AFAIK, Fender does not warranty its finishes so I'm not sure that anything can be done (aside from a refinish).
