I have a neck plate that was removed from a 1975 Fender Jazz Bass and I compared it in size to a standard 3 bolt plate that was removed from an early 80s Squier. The Squier plate is what can be found on any 70s Stratocaster while the Jazz Bass plate is much larger in size.... Is this normal?

You compare carrots with onions,

Squier are à low budget guitars ( made in China ? ) , parts size and quality have nothing to do with american made parts like the plate you have.

If you are not knowledgeable on the subject it would be better to say nothing at all then to stick your foot in your mouth. Apparently there are many of those on this website.

It's funny that someone from "French Canada" is attacking me on Cinco De Mayo... Also the fact that he is trying to use names when he doesn't even live in the U.S. If I don't hear back by 12:00 am PST I will officially declare victory just like the Mexicans did against the French after driving them out of their country. Btw, French-Canadians are so phoney. Are you Canadian or are you French? .... Oui, oui with aboot!?? Lol!

Tell me where I attack you and I will apologize immediately because it is not my intention

I just write that you talk about two different bass, one made in USA the other made in foreign country.

That MIJ Squier plate is the same size as a mid 70's Fender USA plate that came off a Stratocaster in my possession. These things are all standardized. It may seem like a dumb question to somebody who knows but apparently everyone is as clueless as I am. I'd like to know why the hell the J bass plate is larger than a Strat plate? If you remember a 1970s P bass uses the typical 4 bolt plates found on all other Fender guitars. Only the Jazz bass had a 3 bolt... So why was it larger than a Stratocaster's?

Weight may be the operative factor -- the Jazz Bass neck is significantly heavier than that of a Strat

And let's not forget significantly longer ...
Longer neck = more leverage.

There is nothing surprising to me in the least that such a neck might be given a plate that distributes clamping force over a broader area.

For the record, I've never seen stratele attack anyone and he most certainly did not attack anyone here.
Also for the record, I have two Jazz basses and they both have larger plates than a Strat.
Also for the record, it wasn't only that Jazz basses that had 3 bolt plates.

As the new guy on the block you're going to want to keep your roid-rage, or whatever it is making you take an offensive stance, in check when people are trying to help you.

Ummmm .... exactly who is doing the attacking here?
Get over yourself.

Really?

I'm pretty certain that only the moderators can lock a thread......are you now a moderator?

No one who responded to your question did anything beyond trying to genuinely help you solve an issue. But your jingoistic paranoia seems to have gotten the best of you.

Congratulations......you're #224.

My Beemer is 17 years old .... dood.
It's worth about $6K.
It's only worth that much because it's in pristine condition because I keep it that way.
My Katoom is 15 years old and it's worth about $2K but it's only worth that much because I look after my s|-|1t.
I know that's luxurious compared to the guy riding a 17 year old mo-ped and a 15 year old KX but so is having two hands compared to an amputee.
What could possibly be your point?
Seriously.
How does any of what you just said relate to the topic at hand?

People are trying to help you and all you can do is attack and insult.
There's a word for that.
Troll.

What does this even mean, out of curiosity? Actually, never mind - locking this thread. So it is indeed closed, now. :-) adformento, you are certainly welcome and encouraged to participate here but maybe try starting out again on a slightly different foot, eh?
