I am repairing a MIM 1998 Fender Deluxe Jazz Bass V and have a question about materials used in construction. I purchased the instrument used with a "stripped truss rod." The rod was not stripped. However someone attempted to replace the truss rod nut with an improper sized nut and forced the nut until it split wide open.

In order to remove the nut, I had to cut away the black plastic lining of the truss rod cavity. I have a proper sized nut and am "good to go" except for cosmetics. I would like to repair/replace the black plastic lining that shows at the head of the neck.

My question is: What size/material tubing should I use? Does anyone know of a source?

I have attached two pictures, one of my bass with the missing plastic and one of another neck with the plastic in place. I hope I have adequately described my issue.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
