Have been looking at the Deluxe Jazz series 24 fret fiver and was wondering if this bass was available as a fretless?

I suppose I could buy a DJ24V and have it defretted, but I think it would look sharp with an unlined ebony board.

If not available commercially, about what would the cost be to special order a bass like this custom made?

Thanx!! 8)

The only un-lined ebony fretboard that Fender does on a standard production bass is the Tony Franklin P-Bass. If you like P-Basses, it is a very nice bass.

Since the Jazz 24 series comes from Korea, I doubt you can get a custom one. But I converted a Jazz 24 4-string to fretless and it sounded great!

Your only other option would be a Custom Shop Jazz or similar. But then you are getting into $$$! I currently have a Sadowsky fretless on order which will have a lined ebony fretboard. But I have about 6 months to go before I get it!

I do have a '75 P that I modded in '80 with a J-P-J pup configuration using Duncan QuarterPounders. stack vol/tone, BadAss II, brass nut and a kill switch.

I have a Gibson fretless 4 and would love to have another fretless fiver with a two octave neck.

Maybe I'll just order the fretted J24V and defret it. I love basses, but don't feel the need to poor a buncha money into 'em.

Good luck with your new Sadowsky! I've never played one but have heard tons of great reviews. Again, a little more than I want to spend on a bass. My bad - haha.

If you really like the JD24-5, go ahead and get one and get the frets yanked but make sure it's done right. I would Google the possibilities to see what people are saying is the best way. I have seen one that was finished with a marine varnish (as in boat, not Sargeant Carter) and it was excellent. There are also ways to finish a fretless neck with sanded epoxy - at any rate get it done by someone who knows what they're doing.

I have a ADJB-5 that was converted to fretless and it plays great. If you get this done to your bass you might want to consider what color the frets are filled with. I have a pao ferro fretboard and the fretlines were filled with a darker brown color which is great if you don't need to see where the frets used to be and not so great if you do. $;{>
