Hi Friends

My J-Bass neck pickup will no longer screw in due to damage to the screw hole. What is a good solution to this? I currently cant use my bass because I cant get the pickup to stay in. I did try searching the forum for answers but failed.

All help very much appreciated.

Thanks
Ben

A couple of different methods you might try:

1) Build up the damaged area(s) with a filler such as JB Epoxy Weld then redrill the mounting hole(s) once it has fully cured.

2) Remove the damaged area(s) with a Dremel tool or similar implement, glue blocks of hardwood lumber where needed, then re-shape the area(s) as necessary to accommodate the mounting screws.

Either way will require patience.

I would use the toothpick dipped in wood glue or gorilla glue.

1. Stick a round toothpick into the screw hole to see if it goes all the way to the bottom of the screw hole. If it does then try two at a time or combine round and flat toothpicks until you get a good fit.
2. Dip toothpicks in Elmer's wood glue or Gorilla glue, whichever you have.
3. Firmly insert your toothpick or toothpick bundle until it seats firmly in the bottom of the screw hole.
4. Break off the protruding part of the toothpick(s) and wipe away excess glue or snip with wire cutters.
5. After glue dries, usually the next day, sand or Dremel any protruding wood or glue remnants flat.
6. Mark screw locations and drill SMALL pilot holes.
7. Mount pickup.

This also works for strap buttons but sometimes I use smaller wooden matchsticks and toothpicks.

Hi Guys - Thank you both very much for the advice. I am not sure which one I will try but really appreciate the help as I was pretty stuck before.
